I’m having half of my thyroid and isthmus removed on 27th November and due to fly to disneyland paris on 8th December. How likely is it that I’ll be ok to go?? Hospital team seem to think it will be fine but would like to know how others felt 11 days post op

I was back to work two days after a total thyroidectomy so would think you’ll be ok if the operation goes well. Do check travel insurance though. I’m now very hard to insure even ten years later with the condition managed.

dH had a partial one last year. He was very tired and had brain fog. To do with the hormones. Went back to work and had to be sighed off again. And do check insurance. But you might be fine. He can be a bit dramatic 😂.

My daughter had terrible (but rare) complication 4 days after total thyroidectomy surgery and almost died. We felt fortunate that she had expert medical care we could access quickly - she also required blood tests each day for the week after surgery, which isn't really possible on holiday.

Why do you think strangers on the Internet will give you a more valid opinion than the hospital team who are acutely aware of your individual circumstances and treatment?

Good luck with the treatment though. Id probably not book travel in case of issues as you can never predict
