I don’t know what’s wrong with me but I am freezing. Down to my bones. I have a heating pad under my jumper and a blanket on me and I finally feel warm for the first time this week.

I have ordered a hot water bottle but I don’t know what else I can do. I’m freezing. I’m on Mounjaro so I think it’s that, but I’m just so miserable.

You could try getting something like this for work and taking it in with you every day so it doesn't disappear when you're not there. I find that once my hands get cold from typing and using the mouse they seem to drain the heat from the rest of me.

Your home situation sounds very worrying, it's not normal to sleep in an unheated room, and it's not normal for someone who can afford to go to the Caribbean for 3 weeks to get angry about their daughter boiling a kettle for a hot water bottle. Why not quietly buy yourself an electric underblanket that goes under the bottom sheet, then they would never even see it or know it's there.

No, it's abusive. If he deprived you of food because it's expensive, that would also be abusive.

He’s not abusive 😂

I wear a long-sleeved merino wool vest and leggings under my clothes. Sometimes the merino wool leggings can be a bit warm so I wear silk ones instead. I find having those layers right next to the skin is more effective than not wearing them and piling on thicker jumpers or having an electric blanket over my legs etc.
You can get merino underwear in different weights with the heavier ones being warmer obviously.

I can boil the kettle he just hates when I do the whole kettle for a hot water bottle because he sees it as a waste of money and water

Re: waste of water...I reuse my hot water bottle water. When it's cold, I leave it in the bottle, then re-pour it in the kettle. No waste of water.
(That gets rid of half the argument of "waste")

Ok, so from what I'm hearing from you,
You've lost 7.5 stone (you'll DEFINITELY feel the cold more), you're in a desk job (sedentary) and you live at home with dad who is VERY tight with the heat/electricity usage ( boiling a kettle for hot water= wasteful, heated throw = wasteful etc).
Assuming your blood work shows no deficiency, no wonder you're so bloody cold!
I'd be freezing too!

Ok, so this isn't what I originally thought. I thought "you're an office worker, have to dress professionally and can't move much at work and you're chilly".
This is much more than that.
This is a pervasive all over chilled you can't escape from.

Since Dad won't turn up the heat and won't allow wasteful heated devices, you're gonna have to change your clothing. Invest in thermal underwear (they're modern and stylish...often a matching set and could be mistaken for regular clothing. They aren't "bra and panties" of course, but a full ankle to wrist set of top and bottom. Thin too, so they fit under clothes without bulk.

At home, can I suggest an "ear flap hat". Like elmer fudd on Looney tunes. LOVE mine. Keeps the heat in like you wouldn't believe. I slept with it on if I have to wash my hair in the evening and go to bed with a damp head.

DH is on Mounjaro. He has suddenly realised what it feels like to be a cold woman, having been a hot-running man all these years.

A tight bottom layer might not be helping you, OP. Or maybe get some fleece-lined leggings?

That’s funny, my DH has always been a ‘cold woman’, he stands there freezing and going blue outside. I on the other hand am always warm and haven’t even got a coat out yet.

DH wears thermals under his clothes from nov-mar, we call it his Mormon underwear. OP, maybe you should get some.

TeenLifeMum · 20/11/2025 10:02

Mounjaro does that. Never felt cold like it (last year). I got an electric blanket for Christmas and bloody love it!

ColdToesandWarmHeart · 20/11/2025 07:58

I’ve lost 7 and a half stone in 16 months, I’ve not gained weight 😂

re bloods - I’ve been asking for an iron test for a while as I suspect I could be anaemic but my GP refuses.

I think PP meant that you being overweight to begin with (hence taking GLP-1 meds) could point to an existing thyroid problem.

Also, cold temperatures (like 11 degrees in your house) can put your thyroid under more stress, if you are already hypothyroid.

Would not be surprised if GLP-1 messes with your thermal regulation also.

PickASize · 20/11/2025 10:03

I used to just freeze and not drink enough water all day because cool drinks made me cold..I'd have loads of hot drinks but my hands would go numb no matter how many layers I wore, this is wfh though.
Now I've moved downstairs next to the woodburner, not freezing anymore at least when it's on but sometimes too bloody hot. 😂

SisSuffragette · 20/11/2025 10:07

I have a heater under my desk

Isobel201 · 20/11/2025 10:09

I've been struggling with the cold the last few days. Doesn't help that I work from home downstairs in a three storey townhouse with heat that rises, so by the time the afternoon comes I'm freezing. I'm going to have to buy myself a heated blanket I think. I've been on Mounjaro and its my first winter with it, but I have been able to warm up when I come upstairs to the lounge and the heating is there.

ColdToesandWarmHeart · 20/11/2025 09:55

He’s not doing it to cause us discomfort. He’s doing it because he sees it as a waste of money. That’s being right, not abusive.

It's not "right". Why do you think it is? The NHS recommends a minimum temperature of 18 degrees in living spaces. Were you in a house at 12 degrees as a newborn?

Sorry, I meant tight

I don’t know. He has the fire on, so I assume I was just in that room. He’s always been that way

It’s just how he is. He’s always been the same and likely always will be. He’s a bit tight. He walks 25 minutes each way to get his newspaper, come rain or shine, instead of paying £12 a week to get it delivered. He’s not abusive.

I’m sure if you were a child and social services became aware they would regard it as abusive.

I worked in freezing office one winter - I would come into work and put on fingerless gloves, a scarf and a hat. Thermal socks are a godsend - if your feet, hands and head aren’t losing heat it’s easier to maintain your core temp. Old fashioned thermal underwear - vest and longjohns - are great (try Damart. Layers are your friend Get a bodywarmer or a wool gilet .

KellsBells7 · 20/11/2025 10:23

I have an electric foot warmer under my desk, I turn it in as soon as I start work and find it really helps. My hands are always freezing, but I can’t work in gloves.

I don't know if you've read all the OP's posts on both threads, but no, it's isn't THAT cold to be as distressed as she is at the moment.

If you're equally as completely unable to warm up as the OP, I'd suggest you also see a GP.

It’s been hovering around feels like 0 or -1°, and we have a horrid easterly wind coming in. I live on the coast so an easterly wind goes right through you. Sometimes the wind chill can take 10° off the temperature
