Am I being scammed on Vinted or am I just not used to it?

I’ve never used Vinted before but saw a coat I loved on there and put in an offer. Coat was £50 which was more than I wanted to pay so I put in a bid for £30. Offer was declined so I left it alone. A week later I got a message from seller saying they’d reduced the price down to £35 and could post it that afternoon if I bought. I bought it immediately, and then messaged thanking them and saying I was looking forward to receiving it. I didn’t hear anything back, but I’ve not used Vinted before so assumed I was just being too friendly and they weren’t interested. Then I waited and waited. Today was the last day they could send it, and I’ve just had a message saying they’ve been ill and haven’t had a chance to post, but they’ll relist and I can buy it again? I’ve had a google and apparently if they don’t post in time I’m supposed to get an automatic refund.

so my question- is this some kind of scam and I should take my money and run. Or is it possible/likely that they’re just quiet on communication and didn’t tell me they were too ill to post until too late? Should I attempt to buy again (I do like it but I’m not desperate)? I’m not used to Vinted so not sure what to do?

since it’s AIBU-

YABU- they’re poorly, give them a break and buy it again
YANBU- don’t risk it, take the refund and run

If you want it, buy it again. I’m not sure how they would be able to scam you?

Cheeseontoastghost · 19/11/2025 19:05

Have you had the refund?

It's a bit odd as they can request a postage extension
Tbh I would take the refund and not bother

Cheeseontoastghost · 19/11/2025 19:06

Ps I always check reviews before I buy or if anyone favourites my stuff
Poor reviews, instant block

SilenceInside · 19/11/2025 19:07

I would at least wait until you have your refund back in your Vinted balance before doing anything else. For me, I wouldn’t buy anything from that seller again as they’ve been flakey and not communicated, regardless of the reason. That’s not being harsh, just practical.

TheBeesKnees7 · 19/11/2025 19:08

If today is the last day to post they can extend the shipping time so no need to relist and buy it again

NameChangedTimesTen · 19/11/2025 22:27

Ok thanks. I checked my bank and there’s no refund, I didn’t realise it went to Vinted nor me? I’ll check, thanks!

A refund goes to you, but in your Vinted balance. You can then withdraw it to your bank account.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/11/2025 22:38

I would wait to get my
refund. Definitely don’t pay for it again at least until you’ve had this.

It does seem odd as they can ask for a postage refund. So I’d be wary just for that reason!

selondon28 · 19/11/2025 22:45

If you buy again and they fail to post again, you will get an automatic refund. I use vinted a lot but wasn't aware of the postage extension option. When buying and selling I've occasionally done what your seller is suggesting, so it's not inherently suspicious.

FatherDickByrneV · 20/11/2025 03:55

I'd just take my refund and search for the same coat on Vinted. I've given 2 chances to sellers who've done the same to me. They didn't post the second time either. Definitely check automatic reviews in future (not that that is necessarily a guarantee) but it is useful.

LoveAbitOfAlanCarr · 20/11/2025 04:00

Do not buy it again.
Why would you need to buy it again?
Contact Vinted and get a refund and get a coat elsewhere

Branster · 20/11/2025 04:03

I had this same scenario and re-bought the same dress twice. The seller never posted on time but I had a refund every time.
I think they were simply not serious about selling. Complete waste of time. Incidentally their account disappeared after a while.

stopringingme · 20/11/2025 06:34

When you buy vinted hold the money - the seller does not get it until the transaction is completed @NameChangedTimesTen

If the seller does not send the item in the specified time frame vinted cancel the transaction, you get a full refund to your original payment method and the seller gets negative feedback.

You then can either buy again or move on it is your choice.

If you go to the help centre on the vinted app you can read how buying etc works so you know the time frames they work to.

Communication is not a big thing on vinted, some send loads of messages, some none, it is up to the individual, so you have done nothing wrong

Sartre · 20/11/2025 06:41

I don’t think you can be scammed on Vinted. You will be automatically refunded if she doesn’t post. Some people get busy and forget to post or can’t be arsed, it’s most likely just this.

DorsetCafes · 29/11/2025 11:54

This happened to me (as seller). An item that I had listed ages ago and forgotten about was suddenly bought while I was away in Australia. I ran out of time to post it so the transaction was cancelled. I messaged the buyer and said sorry, I will relist and you can buy it again if you still want to. And she did, everyone happy.
