To not be intimate with my partner when he does not brush his teeth?

To put it in context, he does not have bad breath but he has awful hygiene habits.

never brushes his teeth at night and the following morning, if he’s not heading out, unlikely to do so unless he has a shower.

such an ick for me. Nice guy but I’m so turned off by this. The times I’ve brought this up he gets angry so I’ve left it.

oh, and he goes to the toilet and washes his hands with water only.

what would you do?. He calls me a germophobe and wonders why I’m not so forth coming with intimacy.

🙄 girl he wont change, leave him and find someone else who brushes their teeth in a normal way

anytipswelcome · 19/11/2025 18:46

Well he either cares enough about you and your relationship to change in order to have intimacy or he doesn’t. And as you’ve raised it before multiple times and he’s not changed, the latter is obviously the case unfortunately.

It sounds really fucking grim to me OP. If he isn’t using anything but water then he isn’t really washing them in the sense of cleaning them, he’s just getting them wet temporarily.

I would be so turned off as would the vast, vast majority of people.

Ewwww.
Raise your standards. I couldn’t share house space with that kind of unclean, let alone a bed.
I’d never consider being intimate with someone so disgusting.
An impromptu session without prior brushing/showering is perfectly fine and acceptable, to expect you to tolerate that level of absolute grim daily is not.

VoodooQualities · 19/11/2025 18:48

Tell him you need him to brush his teeth before kissing you and floss once a day too. And his hands go nowhere near (a) you and (b) any food you're going to eat until they've been washed with soap.

Or dump him.

YouDriveMeCrazyButICanDoThatMyself · 19/11/2025 18:48

Oh, wait.
Have I fallen for it again?

PeachyKoala · 19/11/2025 19:04

YABU for being in a relationship with someone so disgusting 🤢

TomatoSandwiches · 19/11/2025 19:14

There are plenty of men that brush their teeth, leave this scrub and find one.

Bikergran · 19/11/2025 19:15

🤢🤮🤢🤮🤢🤮

Arlanymor · 19/11/2025 19:18

If he's not using soap then he's not 'washing' his hands. What was this man doing during Covid? Walking around being a superspreader by the sounds of it?

I would find someone with better hygiene - it's disrespectful and at some point in the future his teeth will fall out and you'll be taking Gummy McGummyface.

Honestly, the bare minimum for me in terms of hygiene is someone who washes once a day, brushes their teeth twice a day and properly sanitises their hands after going to the loo. THE BARE MINIMUM.

CalmTheFuckDownMargaret · 19/11/2025 20:50

I left my ex for this. It’s a total lack of self-respect and it’s incompatible with my own desire to be pleasant to kiss.

JHound · 19/11/2025 21:01

How do people enter into relationships with poor hygiene? I don’t get it?!

For what...?

I'm assuming falling for a blatantly obvious clickbaity type question, although I could be wrong 😳.

Terrytheweasel · 19/11/2025 21:11

My partner isn’t amazing as I have really standards when it comes to personal hygiene, but he does not object to me asking him to wash his hands or brush his teeth, take a shower etc
He does shower daily and brushes his teeth twice a day. I prefer someone to shower twice a day if they place sports and cycle to work. I’m not sure you’re compatible.

SeaAndStars · 19/11/2025 21:12

What would you do OP if your friend told you that you that her bloke

  • doesn't brush his teeth
  • doesn't wash his hands properly after he's been on the toilet
  • gets angry
  • minimises her concerns and calls her names
  • then wants sex with her?

You'd cringe really hard, feel a bit sick and worried for her and wonder what she's doing with such a lazy, dirty, rude, angry arsehole.
