If you have (or have had) a six year old child. Do they, or did they, hit their parents?

YANBU - They did not hit.
YABU - They did hit.

You’ve put YANBU for both options so hard to vote.

Mine did hit but only when in a rage about something. But yes, when like that they could on occasion lash out (one of my sons more so than the other). Always reprimanded and they’re growing out of it.

Ecrire · 19/11/2025 12:52

both options are YANBU so your vote is a bit meaningless.

Thank you. I have edited.

No, my six year olds did not hit me (when they were six) had grown out of all that by then

looselegs · 19/11/2025 12:53

No.

Shouldhavebutdidnt · 19/11/2025 12:54

I have a 6 year old DD and she has never hit anyone. I can’t imagine how I would react if she hit me or DH tbh.

Lucia573 · 19/11/2025 12:54

My children have never hit me.

didgeridid · 19/11/2025 12:55

My eldest is 7 and has never hit - unless when we are playing fighting and it gets crazy 🤣
My youngest is 18 months and I have no doubt he'll get me at some point 🤣 he has a temper!

drivinmecrazy · 19/11/2025 12:57

My children have never, nor would they, hit me.
Would be helpful to have some context

ChocolateMagnum · 19/11/2025 13:02

I think each of my children had a go of hitting once or twice but much younger than 6 and very quickly learned that it wasn't ok with supportive, effective parenting. Worth bearing in mind that none of them are high support needs ND.

Rickrolypoly · 19/11/2025 13:03

I've had 2 kids , neither have ever hit me.

Fifthtimelucky · 19/11/2025 13:06

No

One of them sometimes used to hit me as she flailed her arms about wildly, trying to resist being secured in her car seat, but she had stopped that by the age of three.

Styles96 · 19/11/2025 13:16

My daughter is 6 and has never hit me, or anyone. She doesnt have a temper though and never really gets angry or lashes out.

DramaAlpaca · 19/11/2025 13:19

I don't think my three boys ever hit me, or their father. Each other, on occasion, probably.

LovesLabradors · 19/11/2025 13:20

I can't remember mine ever hitting me - not even as toddlers.

BauhausOfEliott · 19/11/2025 13:29

I don’t think it’s common for school-age kids to hit their parents at all.

PorridgeAndSyrup · 19/11/2025 13:34

My 5 year old has hit me or her father about 2 or 3 times, probably... and my 2 year old has tried it about twice too. Always when they're in the midst of a real paddy, and we made it clear that it wasn't going to get them anywhere. and it hasn't (so far) become a habit.

DCa · 19/11/2025 22:33

Thank you everyone. This is as I expected.

Pleasegodgotosleep · 19/11/2025 22:40

No and def not by the age of 6.

Blappengrap · 19/11/2025 22:42

I recall having "I will not let you hit me" conversations with both of mine, possibly when they were toddlers they are both ND, it was frustration rather than malice. I thought it was very usual behaviour, everyone I knew their kids did similar when upset.

mynameiscalypso · 19/11/2025 22:46

I have a 6 year old. He’s never hit me on purpose (by which I mean that there’s no doubt been some accidental flailing, especially when he was younger).

Yellowcakestand · 19/11/2025 22:47

Yes mine has. A switch of temper. Learned behaviour from the first 2 yrs of his life with a DV household had an impact. Or its in him. Either/or not got to the bottom of it even after input from services

HereintheloveofChristIstand · 19/11/2025 23:15

I believe DH got whacked in the face during a very enthusiastic game of hungry hippos

Oh you mean in temper? Believe me, they would not even dare to try that one.

Ponoka7 · 19/11/2025 23:19

My Granddaughter did. She hadn't been diagnosed with moderate hearing loss, mainly because of Covid lockdowns, she also is slightly delayed. The children who still hit usually have additional needs, or health issues.

Yesimmoaningaboutbenefits · 19/11/2025 23:45

2/3 didn't.
1 with ASD did. Never hit anyone else though, only me. Another child might hit her/annoy her/push her... she wouldn't dream of hitting them back, she'd run over to me and hit me instead. She grew out of it eventually. I think the last time I remember her hitting was around 10yo.
