To be disappointed that boiling an egg in the air fryer didn’t work

I’d read great things about boiling eggs in the air fryer but I’ve just tried it.

Good - the time and temperature recommended resulted in a perfect jammy yolk as promised.

Bad - lost half the whites because the shells appeared superglued on 🤨

I’m with you on that. Tried it expecting it to revolutionise dippy eggs. I burnt them. Shells glued on and whites were brown inside. Scorch marks where they’d touched the air fryer. Couldn’t eat them. I just boil them in a pan now as per Delia. Perfect every time.

Who advised this to you? It seems like a fire hazard.

No it’s a thing.

YES! A couple of little brown scorch marks.

We use the pressure cook setting for when we do eggs I think.

dontmalbeconme · 17/11/2025 19:54

I do duck eggs for 7 mins at 170 degrees. They come out perfectly, set white, jammy yolk, and definitely no scorching. I always get consistent results.

Presumably a chicken egg would take less time as smaller.

Chazbots · 17/11/2025 19:56

Instant Pot is great for eggs.

A fire hazard?

To cook something in an air fryer?

Why?

(OP, Ive seen this done I think theres some bloke on youtube called Barry who does airfryer things and he did it and others have done it, theres a way to mitigate the superglued shell issue but I cant remember what it is)

Tamfs · 17/11/2025 20:09

Not boiled, but someone told me to poached eggs in the silicone cups in the air fryer. All they did was fly around and coat the whole thing is eggy bits. Never again!

Prelim · 17/11/2025 20:11

Sounds amazing, I only eat the yolk anyway!!

Wonderknicks · 17/11/2025 20:11

I did some a few months ago when I wanted a few for salads, sandwiches etc & it worked very well. I did some more last week & one exploded & the other two were burnt!

WonderfulSmith · 17/11/2025 20:11

I found that they tasted burned after being done in the air fryer.

Handeyethingyowl · 17/11/2025 20:11

But - why? I can’t think of much easier than putting an egg in some water and turning on the hob?

EdinaTheConfessor · 17/11/2025 21:18

It’s not really boiled eggs if you are not cooking them in boiling water.

Same here. Likewise crumble all gets blown about.

Next up, Mumsnet laments how hard it is to make a cup of tea in the air fryer.

DustyMaiden · 17/11/2025 22:01

Can’t see what you gain if it does work.

PuppyMonkey · 17/11/2025 22:09

180 degrees for 7 minutes and they come out fine for me. You can’t peel them very easily if you prefer a cold hard boiled egg, but you can scoop out with your spoon or use for dipping soldiers.

Yes, putting them in a saucepan is easy. But you do have to watch them and time it right from when the water starts to boil for soft boiled - three minutes, four minutes or whatever. But I can just put them in the air fryer for 7 minutes and go off and do something else until my perfect egg comes out. Well actually I put three or four in obviously.

Objectrelations · 17/11/2025 22:10

Put them in at 130 degrees for 12 minutes then straight into cold water for a couple of minutes so the egg shrinks away from the shell.

Even easier - spend £10 on a boiled-egg maker. Put the eggs in the machine with the required small amount of water and 5 minutes or so later they're boiled. Far easier, far more economic than heating a pan of water and no danger of the water boiling over.

MsSmartShoes · 17/11/2025 22:25

Why reinvent the wheel?

ChaliceinWonderland · 17/11/2025 22:39

You were disappointed? Of all the things I've read here this is surely the most irreverent

Bobloblawww · 17/11/2025 22:57

Is it really that hard to boil an egg for 6 minutes?

DustyMaiden · 17/11/2025 23:07

Mash in the slow cooker is good. Potatoes salt cup of water. Add butter when finished and mash.
