... to wonder why Amazon Haul is OK, and yet Shein and Temu aren't?

I'm in Ireland, so can't access Amazon Haul - but I saw Mumsnet were promoting it, so had a look. It seems to be the exact same stuff that Temu and Shein are selling - so can someone explain to me why the Mumsnet Powers That Be deem AH to be OK, but 'everyone' disapproves of Temu and Shein purchases? What am I missing?

God knows. So much of the stuff on Amazon is now Shein stuff at 4 times the price.

Moreteaandchocolate · 15/11/2025 18:12

Agree.

Coming back to the thread 'cos I got an email reminding me to :) Anyone else got any opinions on this?

I think AH is as bad as Shein and Temu.

But you're confusing user opinion with Mumsnet advertising choices.

MaryBeardsShoes · 16/11/2025 18:51

I see Shein adverts on here. Just yesterday I accidentally clicked one. Very annoying as I would never buy from there or anything with “Haul” in the title.

According to Which? magazine
Amazon keeps Haul prices low by sourcing directly from China and accepting that this means longer delivery times, much like the business models employed by the likes of Shein, Temu and Aliexpress.
I am trying to find out where in China the goods are sourced by Amazon and are Amazon using factories and manufacturers that use modern slavery methods (as Shein and Temu do).

I got a notification with a discount code from amazon promoting haul, i went on to see but it looked like a pile of tacky shite so never bothered. Your right, its just temu plastic shit. Pointless tat that you want at the time but breaks 1 month later.

NaranjaDreams · 16/11/2025 18:56

It’s the exact same stuff you buy from Shein and Temu.

But that’s been the case for a while, there’s been whole groups about things you can buy very cheap on Temu and have delivered from Amazon very quickly, as it’s the same that Amazon sell for 20x more. Hobbycraft do the same thing. Someone locally ordered on Temu and managed to click and collect from Hobbycraft. She paid 50p per unit, Hobbycraft were selling them for £3.75. Insane.

But I’ll second what someone said above; you’re conflating user opinions with advertising.

I've boycotted Amazon for a while now, cancelled prime - I was an avid user, living in the middle of nowhere - but learning about their control and marketing techniques just makes me so mad.

So now I use Amazon as a search engine and find the goods from elsewhere.

If you get the time - read this guardian article

Way past its prime: how did Amazon get so rubbish?

Yeah, I guess you're all right about the advertising vs opinion thing - and I've seen Temu and Shein adverts on here, but haven't spotted any 'Official' Mumsnet posts in Active promoting them - so that stood out to me as somewhat hypocritical and ill-judged. I was disappointed, to say the least.

Edited to change a typo!

Everything is as bad as each other these days.

hiintrepidheroes · 16/11/2025 21:24

I agree and don’t shop from Amazon either for exactly this reason. I actually thinks it’s shameful that MN promotes over consumption.

Gifts should be thoughtful rather than a pile of plastic rubbish, less is more. But we live in a work where people think 20 versions of something is better than one quality product.

My family ask what DD wants so I’ll send a link, they won’t get what I asked for but instead 5 versions of an inferior product. I don’t get it.

Carla786 · 16/11/2025 21:37

None of them are OK. Amazon is a brutal business. There's so much corporate misconduct and mistreatment of workers, from toilet trips denied to no protection from dog attacks

StrikeForever · 19/11/2025 14:15

Well after swearing off TEMU for years, I have finally placed an order. I have huge ambivalence about it. It’s not for tacky gifts, but for some sewing supplies that if I bought anywhere else, would still come from Chinese factories and greatly inflated prices. I bought things like a bobbin case silicone hemmer, overlocker cotton and a bedspread. The bedspread is £16 for a kings size. I just can’t justify £200 + from a UK shop. I feel all kinds of guilt, but most of what I could buy here would be manufactured there wouldn’t it?
