Son's MiL lives about 10 minutes drive from me but we only see each other when it's something to do with our kids. Last year she suggested we didn't buy each other a Christmas present, and I agreed as she has mobility problems and was finding it hard to get around much. I've since found out that she actually bought lots of people presents - presumably online- and I was left out. It's not money problems, she fine financially, but I felt quite hurt and think she just doesn't like me.

Why would she suddenly start not liking you?

And as an adult are presents really that important to you? Presumably your OH, kids etc will get you gifts.

I'd be happy if certain people said they'd rather not exchange. It's one less gift for you to worry about giving. If they chose to get gifts for other people I wouldn't really consider it to be my concern. Especially If the others were children or closer to that person.

You aren’t friends. You only connect when it’s something to do with your kids. It’s completely fine for her to suggest not buying each other Christmas presents. It has nothing to do with money or her mobility but because you aren’t actually close. Which means she is perfectly free to buy Christmas presents for anyone she is close to.

Your son's MIL? .... what is it about Christmas that brings out the worst in people? She can give presents to whomsoever she wishes. How could you possibly feel left out?
I think you should let this go and concentrate on important things in life ....

OK then, I'll stop moaning, but she buys for mostly adults.

OK… that was clear in your OP. She is closer to them than she is to you. It’s not a big deal.
