I know it seems I’ve been living under a rock, but I was always of the view that processed foods, whilst not ideal, aren’t THAT bad. I grew up in the 90s had a lot of turkey twizzlers, sunny D and seemingly no ill effects.
But I’m pregnant with suspected gestational diabetes, so I’ve been asked to keep an eye on blood sugar.
It has been SO eye opening.
Homemade bread for toast? No blood sugar spikes at all. 2 sourdough crumpets for breakfast? Awful, blood sugar through the roof.
Same with pizza, homemade no problems, a deluxe ham pizza from Lidl, sky high. (Although looking at the ingredients closely it contained nearly 18g of sugar?!).
Again, crustless quiche from Sainsbury’s, high blood sugar, homemade Spanish omelette with loads of potato’s, fine.
I know this is very much in the zeitgeist atm, but I kind of ignored it, until the data from my blood sugar was stark and the wake up call I’ve needed!
