My girl is having her kittens! First one is here squeaking and healthy!

Second is imminent.

I think she’ll have 4 🤞🏽🤞🏽

No other rescues around? Around here we have 5 different rescue centres.

My friend would not have rejected you because of a child, she works with CP. But she would reject if near a main or busy road.

Edited

I’m in London and got rejected from 4 big name rescues and 3 smaller local charities so I ended up buying from a breeder.

Millytante · 13/11/2025 13:45

What a clever girl! How wonderful.
Right this minute Ive my two very elderly 🐾🐾 ladies on my lap but I still yearn for a few jolly kittens. Unlikely to ever happen again now Im so old, but aren’t they the best thing in the world?
Many congrats to the relieved mother and I hope her babies all thrive. Nothing makes a cat happier than this! x

Kittenwatch · 13/11/2025 03:38

Me too - they’ve always been my favourite.

We are keeping 1 and I hope it’s a black one. It’s my son’s choice though as it’ll be his.

Hope it’s not me being weird, but I really love to see a little boy with a beloved cat. Such an all-round encouraging sight.

Hmmm

  1. You refuse to believe anything the OP says

  2. You continue to berate her for all the fictional stuff you have decided she will and won't do in the past, or in the present or in the future.

I really hope you don't work in a court of law.

And the very first thing you've missed out that leads me to disbelieve because seen and heard it before;

She let her cat have kittens when so many out there need homes.
She didn't mention her black daddy cat being neutered.

Did they say why?

Kittenwatch · 13/11/2025 13:52

She didn't mention her black daddy cat being neutred.

I didn’t say he was mine did I?

What’s the point in commenting if you prefer to believe based on your experience rather than what I actually say?

It renders any conversation pointless because whatever I say you won’t listen.

Seriously - why are you here @Happyjoe?

The kittens are here. There’s nothing for you to add. Go find someone else’s parade to rain on.

Be a responsible owner. Letting your cat out, intact is not responsible if daddy cat isn't yours. This isn't my experience, this is what you actually did, no?
Make sure the kittens are going to be neutered.

Rain on parade, lol, if you see what rescue folk see, you'd not say that. Glad you've nice homes lined up.

If you keep a female kitten will you let her have a litter as well? And then keep one of her babies??

I love kittens but letting moggies have a litter is irresponsible 🤷‍♀️ the world does not need 5 more cats.

The wellbeing of this new mother cat is worth something though, and a domestic indoor cat thrives if she’s allowed one litter before early spaying.
It is better, healthwise, that she be allowed to give birth just the once, but also, the experience of bearing kittens is pure pleasure to a cat, and if the kittens are found homes in advance, all is well. I say brava, to OP.
We curtail many of our a cats’ basic instincts when we live with them in our home, for many good reasons, but if circs allow it, its also good if they can at least enjoy a bit of feline family life.
That there are strays and rescues out there is not to be denied, but it’s better we focus on strengthening a NTR programme than dictate very strictly how responsible cat guardians such as this are to treat their cats.

(Id also say, and only flippantly, that if we could minimise any suffering endured by strays, I think there can never be too many cats.
Ideally they’d all live in a green park in a town centre, adding to the gaeity of the citizens, and maybe curbing the pigeon population. What else are old dears like me for, if not to feed urban cat colonies, if any survived the building boom of recent decades! )

Loooper · 13/11/2025 14:08

For crying out grief, what has happened to this site? A sweet post about kittens and the OP gets a kicking. Those of you who posted those joyless sanctimonious comments: Did that make you feel good? Do you feel superior now you’ve pissed on the OP’s chips? God forbid anyone could have a moment of happiness, eh?

OP, congratulations on your kittens! They’re beautiful.

You are very mistaken. That's a complete old wives tale. They definitely should not have a litter before they're spayed.

Roselily123 · 13/11/2025 08:23

But op said early on it was her ‘one and only litter’ and she had ‘Homes ready for at least 6 kitty’s’
These things happen and the op sounds lovely and very responsible.
Thanks @Kittenwatch for such a lovely thread ❤️
as a child we had 2 black cats 🐈‍⬛, and dad had another , once we left home.

Yes this is what I read too, so I don't understand that comment.

As an old wife myself, I have observed it to be true, having lived with female cats for six decades now.
Even our present vet at the young and cool cat hospital abides by this advice for new cat guardians.

Another thing Ive observed is the invariable habit of cat threads, in any forum, of getting very nasty. Sniping galore.
Let’s be glad for the lives of these tiny kittens at least, and not cast a pall over OP’s joy.

ImogenBrocklehurst · 13/11/2025 14:22

Just found the thread, so I missed the drama, but the best thing I’ve seen on the internet today. Congratulations to you and mama cat 😻

That’s all it has become these days - a pile on. It’s such a shame that it goes this way but it virtually every thread overtaken by negative judgmental folk. They’ll be on in a bit to defend their position but it’s so tedious and predictable it ruins the site.

KirstenNotKristen · 13/11/2025 15:04

Happyjoe · 13/11/2025 13:50

Did they say why?

Some of the reasons we received:

Concerns about us not being at home a lot - even though my husband works within walking distance of our home and I wfh twice a week.
Garden was too small and enclosed, some were not happy that we planned on cat fencing to ensure it didn’t roam free.
Concerns about us having children - even though we didn’t want any, still don’t want any and will never have any.
Two bedroom home was too small

Judging a person by some else’s actions! Can you not see how wrong that is?

You don’t know OP, you could walk past her on the street, yet you unquestionably believe that she is a liar because someone else you know, completely unrelated, at a completely different time and place, did something different?

Zero credibility.

No you absolute twit - it isn’t! This is why it’s not worth engaging with people like you. You’ve got your narrative and that’s that.

Just sod off already.

I’m in London and got rejected from 4 big name rescues and 3 smaller local charities so I ended up buying from a breeder.

I’m in London too, and I had a very similar experience when I was looking for my current cat three years ago.

I was 64 at the time, and had lived with cats constantly from birth, with the exception of about three years when I was very young. My last two cats lived to 20 and 21 respectively, and I approached various cat rescues about a month after the 21 year old died - the house just felt so wrong without a cat. We have a big house with a large secluded garden, and it’s extremely difficult for a cat to get out to the road at the front unless they travel across many back gardens to find a way out to the front. My husband had retired by that time so was at home all day, and I was working part time from home so was also around all day. I was completely truthful about my experience with cats and what we could offer them, and particularly wanted a kitten or a young cat. For reasons best known to themselves, Battersea and Celia Hammond both told me that I wasn’t suitable to adopt one of their cats, the Cats Protection League took my details but didn’t get back to me for several weeks. I contacted four other rescues and they all claimed not to have any kittens or young cats. I also rang local vets to see if they had clients who might want have kittens looking for a home. After two weeks of trying I gave up and bought my current lovely cat from Gumtree.

@Kittenwatch please can you start another thread in the Litter Tray board in a few days' time so we can see how the little ones are getting on? I would love to have an update without the derailments.

I didn’t even realise there was a cat section.

I will definitely do that 🥰
