My girl is having her kittens! First one is here squeaking and healthy!

Second is imminent.

I think she’ll have 4 🤞🏽🤞🏽

It's 4 months isn't it? Minimum, or down to weight.
Not neutering is fine at the start, wait til a little older but they shouldn't be allowed outside and ensure they don't escape by accident which happens a heck of a lot. They can get pregnant at 4 months old.

Lol over slaves - that's the truth!

Yes @Happyjoe @grumpygrape I meant neutering on standard schedule at 4ish months dependent on weight. They can get pregnant at that age and I have seen horrible situations of inbreeding, and distressed tiny little kittens who have died from the strain of pregnancy, birth and nursing on their body.

The rehoming kittens at 8 weeks thing a lot of people still subscribe to is long outdated, it's much better if the kittens stay with mum for 12-16 weeks for their socialisation, behaviour and play with littermates. This will also allow their first vaccination course to be completed. OP may well be doing this as she has homes lined up, but I thought I'd mention.

Also to anyone who is looking after a pregnant cat who was formerly feral, or had a cat who slipped out ahead of the appointment - vets can and will do a spay abort up into the last week or so of pregnancy pretty much. It's perfectly safe and the recovery time is slightly longer than a normal spay. Much better than bringing more kittens into the world, particularly with the poor tiny kitten mums you encounter living outside.

Blimey never was a poster less well named! Just let it go and stop catastrophising. Just because some people don't do the right thing it doesn't mean everyone is awful and filled with bad or even careless intent.

Edited

Lol, weirdly enough someone said my name suited me on here once.

'Let it go', am responding to posts to me. Should I just ignore them all because you disagree?
Catastrophising, lol, do some rescue volunteering then say that with a straight face. Always happily proved wrong when it comes to expecting lack of animal care, would make me a happy joe indeed. But then a real animal carer wouldn't have allowed kittens in the first place.

Our vets have always recommended 5 months but, yes, weight does come into the equation. I understand the new thinking about earlier neutering in the circumstances I mentioned but I think most vets prefer a bigger animal to work on !

And, yes, I would expect the cats to be indoor only until after neutering. We were very ‘irresponsible’ with our first litter….. Our pedigree Burmese opened a window and went out calling on her own. The local farm Tom was part Manx so we had a real mixture of tail lengths. She went on to have many much loved pets and a few show champions too.

Beeinalily · 13/11/2025 11:39

Gorgeous kittens, and such a pretty proud Mama! What did your son say when he saw them OP?

grumpygrape · 13/11/2025 11:43

I really am struggling with the lack of comprehension and blatant failures to at least read ALL the OP’s posts on this forum.

And then the people who seem to just come for the aggro….

OP, I hope you will keep them until they are at least 8 weeks old, preferably 12 weeks when they can be vaccinated. If they are going to responsible homes where the owners slaves will get them neutered, they don’t need to be neutered early but can wait until 5 months or whatever their Vet recommends. They shouldn't go outside before neutering though.

Trust me, by the time you have 5 x 8-12 week old kittens bouncing round the house you might, just might find it easier to let most of them go ! We used to breed Burmese and Tonkinese and having half a dozen of them haring round the house could be challenging. Ours used to leave at 12 weeks, vaccinated and insured for 6 months. We also guaranteed to take them back if they didn’t settle happily with other animals or children in the house. Never had to though.

We had a lovely black male rescue too and he was one of the 'special' ones. Pet slaves will know what I mean.

Poppyseed14 · 13/11/2025 11:49

What gorgeous babies OP! I'd just keep all of them ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Yes, I realised I scanned that part as many people here have pointed out already, but I will stand by my post that really, there's enough cats needing a home right now than add to it. I am also cynical about her promise to neuter as was it mentioned as a reaction when others said about the problems, plus no mention of getting the black daddy cat castrated either. I presume he's allowed outside..

She needs to ensure that those kittens are neutered too, otherwise the cycle continues.

Hmmm

  1. You refuse to believe anything the OP says

  2. You continue to berate her for all the fictional stuff you have decided she will and won't do in the past, or in the present or in the future.

I really hope you don't work in a court of law.

WhatHoJeeves · 13/11/2025 11:50

Wow, the joy thieves are out in force today. Lighten up a little and enjoy the pictures of beautiful new kittens.

I love cats, ours are rescues and are neutered, as all our cats have been. But I can think of many more valid things to get upset about with regard to animal welfare than someone having a litter of loved kittens with homes to go to.

@EmpressaurusKitty @Pepperedpickles

i am perfectly happy with my decision to let my much loved cat have 1 litter. You have no idea for my reasons for letting her have them and they’re none of your business. I discussed it with my vet and my cat, the father and the kittens are well and healthy. If you think this comment is appropriate on a post where someone has already actually got the kittens then you need to give your head a wobble. I’m not asking you to look after them so jog on.

I’ve been up with her through the whole thing, monitoring and looking after her.

They are loved here and will be loved in their new homes which have already been allocated to close friends and family.

I’ve done nothing wrong.

I read this as you’d discussed it with your vet and the cat 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

Superhansrantowindsor · 13/11/2025 11:56

This thread has been an eye opener.
I genuinely didn’t realise that so many people see nothing wrong with breeding moggys on purpose. In fact I didn’t know that people bred moggys deliberately. I’m so naive.

usedtobeaylis · 13/11/2025 11:57

How depressing to make your way through this thread and see that yet again people have to piss on someone else's parade for absolutely no reason. I wish someone would just take your keyboards away and you can go back to twitching your nets.

Congrats OP and I'm glad mama is doing well.

Same. Plus my personal view just isn't relevant to the thread. Anyone with a problem could have just answered 'not me' to the thread title and moved the hell on.

Are there health benefits to letting a cat have a litter before spaying.

No.

AlltheHedgehogsontheWall · 13/11/2025 12:04

Thepeopleversuswork · 13/11/2025 08:17

You know nothing about how the OP is planning to manage this? I do think its important to spay cats but many people will allow a family cat to have a litter before having them spayed.

Why be so quick to jump in with judgement when you don’t know the circumstances?

We know the circumstances- shelters are overrun with unwanted cats and dogs.

The animals that are already here need looking after before people allow their pets to make more.

Having said that, it is true that rescues tend to have an awful lot of rules about adopting a cat. I looked into it a few years ago and the one local to me didn't allow anyone to adopt in December, didn't allow anyone with an under 5 to adopt, they would inspect your house for cat suitability, and several other things. In the end I gave up on it, and a few months later a local stray moved in of his own accord.

Gorgeous! 😻

BinNightTonight · 13/11/2025 12:08

So glad they are all well, and mum too!

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 13/11/2025 12:11

If you keep a female kitten will you let her have a litter as well? And then keep one of her babies??

I love kittens but letting moggies have a litter is irresponsible 🤷‍♀️ the world does not need 5 more cats.

eyeses · 13/11/2025 12:18

Much of this sounds a lot like "Eat your sprouts, children are starving in Africa".

Congratz on your new arrivals OP, and well done for doing all the right things for the right reasons - doing them to appease the haters wouldn't have worked, as we see.
How wonderful for your son to learn and be part of how life happens. I hope they bring you all, and their new-families-to-be great joy.

TorroFerney · 13/11/2025 12:23

MakeMineADietCoke · 13/11/2025 08:49

Of course you’ve done wrong - you’ve deliberately bred from a moggy for no other reason than you wanted to.

you could say that for a lot of humans who “breed” when they absolutely should not.

well or for anyone who has a child, we do it because we want to. It’s not some altruistic act is it.

I swear someone could come on here having discovered the cure for cancer and there would be people telling her she was bad and wrong and selfish, and probably did it the wrong way.

Love your kittens OP

Sadly I think you’re right. I saw a comment near the start of this thread saying how nice it was to have a lovely happy thread with no nastiness. It didn’t last long before people descended to derail the thread and have a go at the OP. Many people clearly haven't bothered to read the OP’s posts properly and have failed to see that she has homes for the kitties, and is having the mother neutered.

I really hope the OP isn’t too upset by how her lovely thread has been taken over, and that she posts some more pictures of the beautiful kitties.

Omg it totally reads like that 🤣

Could you imagine?

Kittenwatch · 13/11/2025 13:13

@Growlybear83 thank you for being concerned. I’m not upset but I am a bit irritated by the lack of basic comprehension skills and the conjecture from some posters baffles me.

My vet told me I’d get people commenting stuff like this but said it’s lovely to do if the circumstances are right (which she agreed they were for me).

There have also been plenty of posts that have made their points respectfully which I’ve no problem with.

It’s the other type that have me 🙄

I will definitely post pics. DH says all is well and they are currently curled up with mum. Mum has eaten well and seems calm.
