To wonder if people prefer the last government to this one?

The amount of people who are saying they hate this government and would vote reform.
So let me get this straight: many would rather vote for someone who was a member of the facist party at university than labour? Er...ok then. It seems to me that most people are fairly racist and blame others for the state of the economy; immigrants, the disabled, sinle parents, working class etc.

The last government gave us Brexit which was a nightmare and landed us in the shit economically.
At least the roads are getting repaired under labour which is a tangible use of my taxes....and yet people moan about paying more taxes.

Im not saying Labour are amazing...tjey are not but are they worse than the tories?

Definitely wealth taxes. So CGT should increase. Inheritance tax. Pension contribution tax relief should be curtailed as people are building up huge pots unnecessarily. Maybe a VAT luxury rate, although you then get into the question what is a luxury.

More taxes on cars across the board, SUVs in particular and EVs.

There needs to be a packaging tax as the way plastic packaging is used is ridiculous, plus some extra taxes on gambling and fast food.

Council tax needs to be significantly increases as many councils are going bankrupt. The doubling of G and H bands is a good idea before reform is done.

I don't support increases in income tax and NI. Maybe NI needs to come in for pensioners.

I can think of some others.

The government I expect will bottle all of this.

The CGT annual exemption has already been reduced from £12,300 to only £3,000. The IHT threshold has been frozen for nearly 17 years.

How does a wealth tax work? What would be the threshold? What about people with illiquid assets, would they need to incur cgt to pay the wealth tax? Borrow money?

Why SUVs? Many are fuel efficient and low emission, lower than many coupes and hatchbacks. Why come for EVs? I thought we were driving for net zero, why disincentivise?

And are we truly rewarding inefficient councils that have already made inflation busting increases in council tax with yet more increases? Why double G and H? The tax already paid is pretty hefty.

You manifesto is basically a great big jealousy tax on success.

The tories weren’t that great, but at least Boris was funny and Rishi was nice to look at. Kier Starmer is terrible and also utterly boring.

I think Johnson was anything but funny.

How shallow.

RLTraitors · 12/11/2025 14:29

The last lot were a disgrace but atleast the goal posts weren’t being moved every five seconds. This government is the equivalent of playing football on a rotating surface; who shout kick off imminent for 7 hours prior to actual kick off. Everyone nervous.

Confidence and stability is rock bottom. It’s seriously affecting my business.

I suppose you can pretty much view any tax as "a great big jealousy tax on success".

So maybe we should all stop paying any taxes then.

Or recognise that good services require higher levels of taxation.

I don't think it is practical to tax income more, because that is tapped out and it disproportionately hits those with the least money.

There is an enormous amount of wealth to be taxed from the UK middle class and the government needs to grow a pair and get hold of it.

Generally I view that there should be a basic set of stuff that isn't taxed. And everything above that should be. So a basic car, no. An SUV for the damage it does, yes. A basic house no, a large mansion yes.

In my area all the roads are being resurfaced...no more potholes.

Same in my area (North). Plus the road markings have finally been painted again (I don’t think they’d been done since Labour were last in power), cat’s eyes replaced and new street lighting.

It was actually becoming dangerous especially in the dark with all the LED headlight glare.

Wow! you can't take any more taxes from income because we reached a stage when tax basis is decreasing as a direct result, so let's tax middle class wealth? yeah, sure, this will teach them to stay here and work more

I agree.

This government have been the absolute worst. I actually almost can't believe how awful they have been. The uncertainty and fear that they impose on the nature during the lead up to every budget is unacceptable. The fact they seem incapable of making any kinds of cuts is also really worrying.

The entitlement that some people have to other people's money is astounding isn't it?

BettysRoasties · 12/11/2025 14:56

Our roads are not being fixed. However bigger fences are being put up to stop the constant stream of people trying to throw themselves off them. So yeah rather than mental health support just bigger fences over the roads.

Cheaper than the 3/4 hour road closures or mental health help I guess. Push the issue to the next county no doubt.

tapaw · 12/11/2025 14:59

This govt is the worst in my lifetime.

bottledboot · 12/11/2025 15:00

The current government is a shit show.

But the Tories were an even shittier show, and Reform would be a fucking sewer.

This, I do think it's odd that so many posters didn't seem to have much of an issue with years of the Tory shit

bottledboot · 12/11/2025 15:01

The Conservatives did not deserve to remain in power at the last election but Labour have reverted to type and are gravely and grossly mismanaging the economy. The NI increase, particularly the lowering of the threshold to £5k, has plugged growth and resulted in job losses.

Growth has been shit since 08....

bottledboot · 12/11/2025 15:04

We have an ageing population & have done nothing to plan for it. Years of low growth & little investment, low interest rates kicked the can down the road & now there is no more road. People don't want to acknowledge it though & prefer to blame others.

We have a far more pressing problem on our hands which is the SEN crisis. I truly believe a quarter of current primary aged children will not work through some form of mental health issue or neurodivergence.

bottledboot · 12/11/2025 15:06

@Ticklyoctopus why would that be more pressing? We already have more over 65s yr olds than under 15 yr olds.

Ticklyoctopus · 12/11/2025 15:07

Because in about 15 years we will have record NEETS as well as a huge elderly population.

What is your definition of a mansion? grounds? Square footage? Value?

Do you think it is not enough that a hospital consultant (for example, insert entrepreneur, accountant, civil servant, MP as you prefer) who worked around the click for years and financed their own exams, finally qualifies, gets a salary of £125,000 but only takes home £78,000? Is £47,000 in tax not enough for you?

In your little communist utopia, this person would also pay double or more council tax on their band G house and more tax on their Nissan Qashqai. And if they managed to save a few quid they can pay even greater CGT and an arbitrary annual wealth tax.

Not a penny more, the middle classes are being pretty well rinsed as it is.

Ciribiner · 12/11/2025 15:16

Your vote choice isn't clear.

I absolutely can't stand Starmer. He doesn't have any respect for the UK or it's people. He doesn't know what a woman is. I can't even put into words how much I hate him. No politician has ever made me seeth and my skin crawl like he does. I have to turn the TV off every time he comes on, always have done. I didn't and would never vote for him and will vote for anyone to get him and his traitorous cabinet out of government.

@malificent7 ,
“So let me get this straight: many would rather vote for someone who was a member of the facist party at university”
Could you provide evidence of this please? I’m aware that the propaganda machine is in full force where Mr Farage and the Reform Party are concerned. I have actually searched for some time to find any information about this.
The only thing I can find is that when he was 13 years old he was suggested to his headmaster as a prefect and another teacher who didn’t even personally know him objected because they said they had heard he was a Facist.

It really is quite unacceptable to throw around unsubstantiated accusations of this type and more fool anyone who believes them without fact checking. Was that what you were hoping for?

Have you read this account?

The last government did not give us Brexit. There was a referendum.

They offered the public a vote to appease their own back benchers including Farage!

Remember UKIP under Farage? They had surged in popularity, especially after 2010. In the 2014 European Parliament elections, UKIP won the most UK seats, pushing both Labour and the Conservatives into second and third place.
This electoral pressure forced David Cameron, then Prime Minister, to promise an EU referendum in the 2015 Conservative manifesto. This is widely seen as a response to UKIP’s rise and to appease them.

bottledboot · 12/11/2025 15:34

They did a shit job of explaining the pros of staying in!

bottledboot · 12/11/2025 15:35

@Ticklyoctopus in 15 years we don't know what will happen to NEETs, how can that be more pressing than the ageing population which is impacting us now?

bottledboot · 12/11/2025 15:38

@Ticklyoctopus you are aware that NEET numbers are lower than the past?

lostintranslation148 · 12/11/2025 15:41

The massive problem we've had in the country for a pretty long time is that there's no one worth voting for.

The only time I bother voting is to try to keep someone out. I'll be voting in the next election to try to keep Farage out but god knows who I'll vote for.
