To want to hibernate until Spring now that November’s here?

Anyone else who lives alone just feel the shift as soon as autumn hits?

It’s not that I hate winter but there’s something about the darker evenings and colder mornings that makes me want to retreat inward, like proper “blanket cave, minimal human contact, only leave the house for snacks” mode. Social energy feels lower, motivation takes a hit and I’m seriously wondering if I can just opt out of the next 4 months and reappear when it’s warm again.

AIBU to think winter is for hibernating, especially if you live solo?

Yes I think if you live solo you can more or less do this.

Can even get the snacks delivered.

I quite like autumn because the pressure to be out enjoying the sun has gone.

I’ve just taken knitting back up, perhaps choose a comforting at home hobby so you enjoy this time of year

I kind of do. As much as I can. I minimise going out, except for essentials like school runs and to restock the enormous pile of books from the library.

Every evening I pull the curtains, switch on the lamps and the house feels lovely and cosy. I’ve switched from wraps and salads to soups and stews. Swopped out the summer clothes in the wardrobe for cardigans and knitwear.

I’m not completely antisocial and I’m happy enough to have visitors but I’m much less inclined to go out.

Yeah i pretty much did this last winter (I have a seasonal job.) Well, by spring time I wasn't in a pretty state when I had to go back into civilization 🤣🫣. Good at the time, but wouldn't recognise lol

I quite enjoy winter because l have a big garden that l enjoy in summer but glad of a rest from it all this time of the year. Yes l know there are jobs still to be done but not so many, so that allows me to concentrate on my other hobbies.
I also find getting out in the day whether for a walk or cycle ride makes me feel better on my days off.
Winter is a time for deep rest, look at nature, everything slows right down.
I try to go to bed earlier with a good book or listen to an audio book.
I browse online for xmas gifts, look at ideas for redecorating house when l have the money.
Next month we will have the shortest day, then very gradually the evenings will start to get lighter again.
