To be very confused about training dogs

I've had a dog for 2 years from a puppy. I've trained him. I keep training him. Just when I think I've got on top of the best way to train him I read something different.

Today it's a local trainer and owners praising the benefit of ecollars, which I thought were a massive no no.

As lots of posters (and normal people in the real world) think all the dogs should be perfectly behaved, am I being unreasonable to think there should be some kind of consensus on what is good dog training practice?

YANBU - We're in the 21st century. Surely someone knows the best way to train dogs

YABU - Get a grip. No one is ever going to agree. Some people are always going to bang on about being the alpha.

I don't think aversive, harsh training methods ever work (unless your enðgoal is to have your dog afraid of you).

I will say I thought I was pretty good at training. I had 3 dogs who were all well trained and well behaved....then I got number 4!
He is fear aggressive, reactive, anxious. If he was a person I'd think he was autistic as its like he doesn't really understand the world or other dogs. I had to rethink what I knew with him and even now he is a work in progress.

Don't get me wrong...he is the sweetest most loving dog and wants to please you, its just often he can't compute the world (thanks to fireworks and my older dog being PTS he currently has stress colitis, poor lad).
So I suppose I'm saying there really isn't a 'one size fits all' answer.

Again, you're talking about shooting animals, and using shock collars.

What kind of training do you deliver?

You seem very aggressive for someone who talks about training animals. I definitely wouldn't feel safe having you around my dogs.
