Posting here for traffic...

I have to take a random gift to a 50th birthday party/weekend away to be used as a prize.
I want it to be quirky but also something the recipient would enjoy getting. (I hate waste)

Initial ideas: Spirograph (retro appeal) or lie detector test (might get used for fun the morning after the party)

Any thoughts suggestions please.

A prize for any guest? Just adults or any children going?

What 'rules' were you given with this instruction ?

Cost ?
Does it have to follow a theme ?
Does it have to be something to do with the birthday girl / boy ?
Does it have to be something to do with the 1970s?

Why do people do this to guests ???

No instructions other than what I shared. 😶

As random as quirky as you like.

Guests are a mix of work colleagues and strangers so no clues there really

I was planning up to £15. Id rather get something usable than straight in the bin crap.

Maybe my AIBU should have been whether to turn up with a tin of tuna.

This would suit for birthday person and friends of a similar age

Space hoppers are v 70s!

How about a wig? Or a funny hat? There are funny Christmas hats like whole turkeys to put on your head, or Christmas Tree hats that sing.

Or a tshirt with a funny slogan. Depends how risqué you can go.

Honestly a spirograph is a bloody marvellous idea, I had entirely forgotten they exist but now want to play with one more than anything

Do they like games? The Atmosfear games are brilliant fun and would maybe appeal, my mam is in her 50's and I definitely remember her playing them with her pals and having an absolute blast when I was little. Definitely more 90's than 70's but lots of fun in a group!

JaceLancs · 11/11/2025 00:09

I’m liking Spirograph as an idea too

An escape room type game would also be a good option

Dillydollydingdong · 11/11/2025 00:12

A game. What about that Articulate that's currently being advertised on TV? No idea how much it costs though.

I love the idea of fuzzy felt and Mr Frosty.

I feel like a retro / nostalgic toy would be the way to go.

Thanks for your help everyone

I had one from a car boot and most of the bits were missing.
Felt cool owning it regardless
