I'm heading abroad in December to visit my oldest friend. I'd like to take a present for each of her kids but I don't have any of the required age in my life and I see her kids once a year at most- she normally meets me child and husband free when she comes over.
No point asking her as she is super generous and will just tell me not to get anything, but im staying for free in an amazing country I could never otherwise afford so they and the kids are all getting presents!
Any ideas?

Lego, Pokémon, arts and crafts.

My five year old boy is deeply into Lego, that's by far the biggest passion. He also really likes colouring, stickers, reference books about animals (especially ones with detailed, realistic illustrations like the Animalium / Insectarium etc. series) and baking.

Books about vehicles are a hit with ds age 5 (the ones with details about speed, length etc), dd7 likes a sparkly jumper. Honestly not trying to reinforce stereotypes here it's just the way these ones are

Nothing wrong with a stereotype! My Niece ane Nephew are the same. She loves sparkles but vehemently hates frills and dresses!

8 year old girl (if that still helps): KPop Demon Hunters everything. And crafts.

Bushmillsbabe · 10/11/2025 18:55

Another vote for K pop demon hunters, my nearly 7 year old daughter loves it
Anything craft related, sparkly, jewellery

SwirlyShirly · 10/11/2025 19:06

Sorry I got the age / sex muddled up! At 5 he was very much trains!

DD6 and DS4 here

Can't go wrong with lego for eldest she loves animal and space sets. Youngest loves farts and poo so anything jokey like whoopee cushions and the dinosaur who pooped books.

6 y/o boy - K-Pop demon hunters, Minecraft, Lego, SpongeBob, all things drawing and colouring. 7 y/o girl - Taylor Swift; wants a karaoke machine for Christmas

Rather than ask what they’d like, why not just ask her ‘so what are the kids in to at the moment?’ and at least then you know you’re on the right track!

We don't talk often enough for that to be a subtle question tbh. She isn't a big messager. But we've known each over since we were 6 and 8, so we don't need to be in constant contact, if that makes sense. We see each other about twice a year but when we meet it feels like no time has passed. It's that kind of friendship.

6 year old girl loves her arts and crafts, bath bombs and anything that is small, sparkly and has potential for her baby sister to eat 😂
4 year old boy loves hotwheels and spiderman
