I love this little community on mumsnet as it involves so many people from many different walks of life. I also LOVE hearing people’s stories and I also love Christmas - so what better question than asking what you all are up to this festive season? 🎄

I'll be having shoulder surgery 2 weeks before. So I'll either be crying into my pillow or off my head on morphine. Everyone else can stress about this year. I'm doing nowt.

Cheese. Cosy telly. In that order.

Trying to book tickets for a choral concert in early December and the website is problematic.

Unsure of Christmas location as yet - DH and DD want to come to me and I have just bought a Christmas tree. But DD unwell at the moment so she’s home from uni and I may need to go to them instead. So I have checked flight cost but not booked anything yet. But we are definitely a trio, not travelling to extended family this year,

Usual Christmas Eve, visiting to drop off presents. Home for Elf and Muppet Christmas Carol (utter bliss). Just me dh and ds2 on Christmas Day as ds1 is going to his in laws with the new baby and my niece and her dh are at his parents’ this year. Everyone will get together Boxing Day for a great chat, drinks and a laugh. Can’t wait x

We are going on holiday, long haul to the sun. And will be away for both Xmas and new year. I’m really excited about it.

I am going to have a mock Xmas , on the Sunday before Xmas , at home, doing a turkey and all the trimmings, scrambled eggs, croissants for brekkie with some champagne and salmon, got Xmas crackers as well, and will put the Xmas table cloth out and Xmas napkins, and although we said no pressies, got some little openers for my husband and daughter, just doing it all for a little fun.

The resort has a major Xmas gala dinner and does Xmas v well from what I can see, from decorating the resort on. But we need to eat brekkie and dinner at home every day before we go , so why not do a mock Xmas the Sunday before. As the next day , Monday, is packing then off we go.

im not doing a tree this year, but will put the garlands over the fireplaces as a nod to it, they have fairy lights and Xmas ornaments on, so will be enough to bring a little festive cheer to the house, but not so much we get back and need to spend ages taking it all down.

Kids are off school on 21st November so will put a tree up then.

Santa visit on 30th November.

Sun holiday for a week first week of December.

My close relatives first anniversary mid December.

Kids finish school 19th December but I'll be working until 24th.

I'll do a turkey dinner on 24th.

Christmas day, presents first thing from Santa. Dh will take dc to see FIL. I'll stay home and make a lamb dinner. After dinner we go to Dsis for dessert and see Dnephews.
Back home for the evening to let the kids play, sit and relax.

I'll be off work until 30th so will spend time with DC, visit family, probably go to the cinema.

We are a small family, especially now that my parents and PILs are no longer alive. Will probably visit DH’s aunt on Christmas Eve, the crib service at our local church at 6.30, maybe popping into the pub for a drink afterwards.

Christmas Day we will be going out for lunch mid afternoon with DS and his partner. They’ll probably come round to ours for an hour before so that we can swap presents. I expect they’ll come round again Boxing Day evening (or maybe the day after) and we’ll have buffet food and do quizzes on YouTube.

I’ll catch up with my own friends in the week or two leading up to Christmas, also meet with my brother some time in December at a town part way between our two homes, will get the train, have a wander round and lunch together.

Hedjwitch · 10/11/2025 16:37

DD 1 and her friend will come. Dcs 2 and 3 are going elsewhere. That's about it.

zingally · 10/11/2025 16:57

Nothing planned as of yet.

I've hosted the last couple of years, and are happy to continue doing so. I will offer, but I do wonder if my mum will instead want to host at hers. We need to have the discussion!
