To get annoyed at being called “pathetic”?

AIBU or overly sensitive?

DH and I were out with the kids today. We stopped and the older kids (SC) were throwing leaves in the air for the baby. I took 2-3 that landed on DS’ footmuff and threw them in the air like they were doing. DH saw me do it with just a few leaves and said “pathetic!!”

I was instantly annoyed bc I don’t find that sense of humour funny and I don’t particularly like the kids hearing him call me pathetic.

Am I being too sensitive? We’ve had some issues with the SC respecting me lately and it just rubbed me the wrong way that they would hear him call me “pathetic”. Wdyt?

That’s not funny it’s contemptuous.

RightOnTheEdge · 08/11/2025 19:54

Was he trying to be funny? It doesn't sound like it, it just sounds nasty.

Redshoeblueshoe · 08/11/2025 19:55

That's just plain nasty.

It sounds like he was saying it in a jokey way, it wouldn’t bother me, but if this a long standing thing of him saying stuff like that yanbu.

Presumably he meant it in a jokey way that you only threw a few leaves in a half hearted attempt. You’re an adult, put your back into it and chuck them leaves!
If depends entirely on how he said it and what he meant by it, but my take would be as above. I wouldn’t think anything by it and if all else is well in your marriage then you should
know he wasn’t being mean. You are being over sensitive and dare a say it - a bit pathetic.
