To think people at work are generally full of shit?

I’m honestly getting so fed up with the performative nonsense in professional settings. The way people act like they’re deeply invested in certain values or processes but behind the scenes it’s all backstabbing, vague half-truths and passive-aggressive games. So much posturing, politics and people saying one thing while doing another.

I do my job well, I meet deadlines, I communicate clearly and I try to be respectful, but increasingly I feel like that’s not what actually gets rewarded or respected. Instead it’s who flatters the right people, who can spin things or who’s loudest in meetings.

AIBU to think most workplaces are full of people just performing professionalism and not actually being professional? Or have I just landed in a particularly bad patch of work environments?

Not trying to sound bitter (though I probably do), just genuinely wondering if others feel this too?

So everyone is full of shit other than you? Not sure that checks out.

No, my work isn’t like this.

Not saying I’m perfect, just that the culture in some places feels really performative. I’ve worked in a few settings and seen the same patterns crop up, so I was wondering if others had too.

There definitely are periods where there seems to be a lack of leaning in to actually achieve something meaningful, luckily we seem to be getting into a period where my team are quite galvanized, long may it last.

Definately in my workplace! Exactly how you described it sadly, it certainly makes worklife more challenging! IME its mainly women that are the problem.

Always watch your back in the workplace and try not to get involved in any dramas. It can be performative but this is what happens when you are forced to spend a lot of time with people who you wouldn't choose to be with otherwise.

Do your job as best as you can and let the work politics not affect you too much.

Don’t hate the player, hate the game. Whatever gets you paid more money I guess…..surly that’s the main reason people go to work in the first place.

Errrr....can't quite work out if you are being funny or not.

Have you watched Severance, OP?

Is this the sort of bollocks you mean OP?
😂

In other news... the Pope shits in the woods, and bears are Catholics.

And in my experience, it is very much men who are the biggest problem...

The corporate world, all meaningless nonsense.

The corporate world, all meaningless nonsense.

Very true - but I notice that the ones that play the game the best, are often the most successful - regardless of how good they are and they end up in very senior roles just directing other people to do all the donkey work.

There are a large number of utterly charming, backstabbing bastards in my experience.

Not at all like that where I work - maybe that’s why I’ve stayed for 26 years
