Sick of people on weight loss jabs saying you still have to “put in the work” with wl jabs

Plind · 06/11/2025 13:40

I’ve lost a fair amount of weight naturally this year. It’s been hellish as I’m fairly sure I have some sort of psychological reliance on comfort eating. I asked a couple of people I know if they recommend I go on WL jabs for the last stretch as I have lost momentum and am stagnating but could probably still do with losing another 20 pounds. They always say well “WL jabs still elan you have to put in the work. The fat doesn’t evaporate”. I’m sorry but WHAT. The injections are doing the hard bit for you. Ie stopping you from wanting to shovel large amounts of unhealthy food in your gob. It’s very annoying. I see this comment online all the time too.

I definitely do not have an issue with people on WL jabs. I would use them too but I am saving up for a mummy makeover so have chosen to save my money as a SAHM.

Very defensive comments imo!

I’m surprised that some posters have voted that YABU. You’re absolutely right, they stop the food noise and allow people to consume less
calories and if they didn’t, and as hard as some posters would have you believe to still
lose weight then why take them?

TicklishReader · 06/11/2025 14:54

What is it with us women and competeive suffering?

Who the fuck cares?

ACR7 · 06/11/2025 14:56

I actually agree with you in a sense. I’m on them and I bloody love them. It takes away the noise and I am not so ravenous all the time. I must say it’s been quite easy to loose 5stone on them. What I think people mean sometimes is I’ve used this as an opportunity to make better choices as I’ve been weaning myself off them with a view to not being in them at all after Christmas. It doesn’t make you enjoy crap less so I’ve actively been trying to use this as a reset to make healthier choices which will help me keep it off. I could just eat crap but not much of it and loose weight but I’ve made the effort to not do that. You are right it’s been miles easier for me on the jabs but there is work involved in changing your lifestyle for when you come off them.

Glowingup · 06/11/2025 14:58

Mounjaro doesn’t control my appetite at all. Sorry to disappoint. I need to get back on track but it’s basically not doing much for me at the moment. I am taking a low dose though.

TorroFerney · 06/11/2025 14:58

MakeMineADietCoke · 06/11/2025 13:44

It definitely doesn’t stop food cravings. It makes you physically ill if you eat the wrong things but it doesn’t stop you wanting them in the first place.

interesting as I thought they did (lots of people say they do on here and in other social media). So all they do is make you ill after? No effect on how much you want to eat at all it’s just the thought of the carnage after. I wouldn’t have thought that would have worked for a lot of people.

thats not what the medical people suggest they do, they suggest it reduces appetite and makes you feel fuller. Also that it dulls the high you get from other stuff like too much shopping or gambling.

AmberRose86 · 06/11/2025 13:52

I dunno but the pancreas is not to be fucked with. That’s my view on WLI.

That, and I think there is a lot of defensiveness from users who don’t like to be seen as taking a short cut.

Agree with this. I think people do feel some shame perhaps subconsciously which is why they can tend to play down the help they do give.

BashfulClam · 06/11/2025 15:00

They Mrs. You still have to be in a calorie deficit. There is no point going on the jab and eating the same as usual. Yes it decreases your appetite but if you eat crap it won’t work. I know one bloke who has put on weight on them because he’s not actually changing his eating. He’s still emotionally reliant on comfort food. His wife is raging as it’s a waste of money unless you put some effort into using the advantage of reduced appetite.

MyrtleLion · 06/11/2025 15:00

Plind · 06/11/2025 14:01

I don’t begrudge people using them but why can’t some people on the jabs just acknowledge that the hardest part of weight loss (food cravings as a result of deprivation? Is basically taken out of the equation.

Im not jealous. I’d be on them in a heartbeat but im a SAHM and have chosen to spend my disposable income elsewhere

Also those on WL jabs put all the weight back on within a year to 20 months of coming off them, whereas those who lose weight by diet take five years to.regain. So you're on them forever.

This topic is always going to be divisive. I agree with others, if you haven’t tried them it’s not really fair to comment. There are some people out there who don’t need to put any work in but the same can be said for ‘traditional’ weight loss methods. I can tell you for certain that many people on WLI still definitely do have to work at it! I’m on WLI (wegovy) and it can be hard. Side effects are just one of the challenges. I still have to think about what I eat, for some it might me magic but I suspect it’s not for most.

lljkk · 06/11/2025 15:03

I presume this entire thread has subtext of discussing these ideas: "People using WLIs are doing something immoral" or "lazy". Which is a stupid set of things to believe, imho.

Can't imagine why people are so engaged with the things OP said, otherwise.

nomas · 06/11/2025 15:03

Wow, your posts are dripping with contempt and jealousy. You still have to make healthy choices on WLI.

I am saving up for a mummy makeover so have chosen to save my money as a SAHM.

WTF is that?

Very defensive comments imo!

Probably because they know your contempt for them.

why can’t some people on the jabs just acknowledge that the hardest part of weight loss (food cravings as a result of deprivation? Is basically taken out of the equation.

Because a lot of people on them aren’t fat due to overeating because their body was physically hungry. A lot of people (me included) are fat due to an emotional dependency on food i.e. it’s a crutch.

I’m fat because I’m a comfort eater, that meant I ate when I wasn’t hungry; yes the jabs stops you feeling hungry and takes away food noise BUT as my problem is eating when I’m not hungry, what exactly do you think the jab is doing to curb that?

If you’re someone like me, who reaches for the ice cream and chocolate because they get comfort from it and are psychologically reliant on it then yes, you do have to put the work in as those emotional and psychological triggers are still there.

If people don’t have mental triggers with food then they will absolutely find the jabs make losing weight a breeze and that’s great. For others like myself though, who have an emotional connection with food and basically gets a dopamine hit every time they eat, you do have to put the work in as you’re still fighting those mental triggers; the jabs don’t magically take them away.

I hope that helps.

The thing is, I was an emotional eater, and I did have mental triggers to eat. Most of the time, when I was eating, I wasn't enjoying it at all. The jabs still worked for me. They've taken away my emotional reliance on food. I don't know how or why, but they have.

Nothankyov · 06/11/2025 15:09

@Plind i think the way you need to look at it is - for you it feels like it solves 99% of the problem. But you don’t know about how it feels for the people on the jabs. I’m sure that there is a wide range of different experiences and struggles. We don’t know how it feels in other people’s lives. And I’m speaking from someone who has lost 45 pounds without any jabs.

Unorganisedchaos2 · 06/11/2025 15:09

Plind · 06/11/2025 13:43

But it suppresses your appetite which 99% of the issue…

Im not claiming you can stuff your face and still lose weight but it stops the food cravings

Appetite isn't 99% isnt the issue for some people, why do you think all people over eat for the same reason?

I have no issue being hungry, I couldn't not lose weight because I didnt want to be hungry.

Youve done very well losing weight without the jabs - you are far superior to those who have used the jab (big clap) - is that better??

Ladybridgerton25 · 06/11/2025 15:10

I’ve lost 120lbs, don’t be too impressed though it’s taken nearly 2 years. I use Team RH to track everything I eat and drink, I do weight lifting at the gym 3x week, reformer Pilates and I hit my step goal. I’ve had therapy for my disordered eating too.

Now I get asked repeatedly by people if I’m on the jab. They know I do all of the above btw, they have seen me doing it or talked to me about it.

my answer is always, if I said yes does that discredit all the work I’ve done over the last two years? Because it is always people who are struggling to lose weight and they don’t ask me for my gym routine, or which Pilates I go to, they say they don’t want the app details as they can’t deal with tracking etc. which is fine it’s not for everyone. But if I said yes I’ve used the jab I know I’d instantly have all my efforts downgraded and that’s all anyone would focus on. My BMI is now 21 and I have muscles and I’ve worked so hard. Whether or not I used Mounjaro shouldn’t affect how people see that, but they will sadly. There will be people who use it and do none of the above and lose weight effortlessly and there will be people who do all of the above and more who may or may not use it. I don’t feel like that effort should be downgraded if they do personally but that’s just my 2pence.

Weight loss is hard, let’s not make it a competition too ❤️ (not directed at you op just in general)

Blusteryskies · 06/11/2025 15:10

I'm afraid to say I do agree with you. Everyone always says it stops the food noise. On the rare day when I don't think about food all day long, I find it very easy not to overeat. If I felt that way daily, I'd find it much easier to say no to biscuits, chocolates and second helpings. I think it's great that they exist, and I'm happy for people who are losing weight on them, but let's not beat around the bush, it's removing the most difficult element of weight loss. I'm only slightly overweight, so cannot qualify for them but my weight has been a constant battle for my entire life. I'd love to be able to use weight loss injections and shut out the constant desire for food.

WildLimePoet · 06/11/2025 15:11

Yes it gives you a push, a helping hand which is easier than going alone.

What’s your point? Do you still wash your laundry on a washboard and brag that somehow those using a washing machine are cheating?

And anyone who uses the phrase ‘mummy makeover’ is cringe central.

Can I ask, with weight training. How do you start? I’d love to get into that but I’ve absolutely no idea which way is up with it?

tempname1234 · 06/11/2025 15:15

I’m taking them. I still have to exercise. I have to still plan out and cook low fat, high protein meals that can be digested easily. M having a lot of hair loss too.

I WISH it would work for me as it seems to work for celebrities.

for many, even using these injections it is still a struggle.

you really don’t know enough about all the other people struggling with their weight loss.

GirlBottle · 06/11/2025 15:16

I've lost 3 stone on mounjaro with absolutely no effort whatsoever. However, despite being thin now, im an awful crepey mess. It makes you lose it too quickly, so the hard work is probably learning to eat when you feel like you physically can't put anything in your mouth.

Boohoo76 · 06/11/2025 15:18

alqggapwbnch · 06/11/2025 13:49

Ha it does make me laugh when people say they need to put in work for them, they won’t change your habits without effort sure, but my friend went on them and she lost all the weight (and some) in months, she will say herself no effort! (That said she is happy to eat healthily, but it just stopped her binging crap) She gave me a low dose pen when she was weaning off and despite being healthy BMI and it not really changing my eating habits much (low dose) I still lost 7lb in a month (I think I actually lost 10lb by the time I finished eeking it out around 6-7 weeks).

I’d love to be able to buy it when I need to drop a few lbs! People are so shaming about it, but it’s fine when celebs do it.

Well on that basis it seems like losing weight is easy for you. Before Mounjaro, I spent two years eating no more than 1200 calories per day and only lost half a stone. Since I started Mounjaro, I have lost two stone but that took seven months. I’m still over half a stone overweight. I have never had an unhealthy diet, we don’t have takeaways because no one delivers to our rural location and I only drink water and decaf tea with a tiny dash of milk. Mounjaro has been life changing for me but the weight has not just dropped off.

Horsie · 06/11/2025 15:18

crappycrapcrap · 06/11/2025 13:46

Yeah you’re right, I’m on the jabs and loosing weight because im not eating. I’d probably loose loads more if I ‘put the work in’ but right now I’m not. I just want to get some off for my mental health and so I feel able to exercise again.

It's spelt "lose" and "losing", not "loose".

This has been my friends experience with it. She could actually go for days without eating and has to really force food down.
