Aibu - wondering how to progress with Mounjaro price changes

I have been on Mounjaro for some months and my BMI is down to 34 from an initial 41. I still have about twenty kilos to lose. However the price is rising from £160 to £225 for the dose I’m on and I’m not sure what to do.

What have other mumsnetters who have been on the Mounjaro journey done? No abuse please, as I have a tough enough life and don’t need it.

The pharmacist has explained the Wegovy journey where you start back at the start and build up again. He says the first few months won’t be very effective.

I haven’t taken it but I would have thought your health is something you need to prioritise and look at where else you can make cuts to afford it.

I've been on Mounjaro since Feb and made the choice to move to Wegovy. I never got higher than 7.5 and moved to the equivalent of 5 for Wegovy to try and minimise side effects. Only had my first dose last weekend and was surprised I have actually lost 2lb this week already. No side effects either so hoping this continues.

I just couldn't justify the cost anymore, and only have 10lb to lose now anyway so don't mind if it slows down a little

I am on 7.5 currently.

There are numerous threads about this on the weight loss injections topic

I use Medexpress and went through a questionnaire online when I said I was considering changing. It gave me the option to go straight on to the equivalent dose or step down, plus a price comparison. I found it very simple and made my own decision to step down. At no point did they say I had to start from the beginning dose again. Took a few days longer than usual for them to prescribe it as it went back to a full review, but I had the new pen within about a week of starting the process

How much would it cost to go through say 6 months of Wegovy with no change versus 1 month of mounjaro with almost guaranteed change? A friend of mine had bariatric surgery which was about £14,000 and lost 8 stone. I’ve lost 3 and spent about 10% of what she has. I am using my savings but I’m going to keep buying it until I hit my goal weight. It’s the most cost effective way and it’s an investment for my future
