Can't she read a book? Do the crossword? Phone a friend for a chat? Listen to the radio?

BroccoliSpears · 06/06/2008 20:56

lol - there's an echo in here.

theSuburbanDryad · 06/06/2008 20:56

Eh?

I was totally with you on the other thread LEM, but am a bit flummoxed here!

micci25 · 06/06/2008 20:57

im sure she will still do it for you, just offer to buy her a mag or lend her a book!

plus if you ahve a pc which you obv do you can show her how to watch dvds on it. or even introduce her mumsnet

LuckySalem · 06/06/2008 20:57

OMG - Turn the computer on for her and load a games website.
Give her a book, a CD, a magazine
Puzzle books!!

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 06/06/2008 20:57

Read a book, tidy out her handbag....

lucyellensmum · 06/06/2008 20:58

She can;t read a book, her eyes are really bad, shes awaiting treatment , the only radio we have is on the TV. Ah well.......she might offer, but its a bit of a liberty isnt it? I mean, would you want to babysit with no form of entertainment apart from a dog?

I can relate to LEM. This sort of thing happens to me too.

You need a double summut- voddy, whisky,

OrmIrian · 06/06/2008 20:58

I think she'll manage

If she's the same generation as my mum, she went through the war and they made the own entertainment in those days

Fanella · 06/06/2008 20:58

Introduce her to mn. She'll NEVER LEAVE.

lucyellensmum · 06/06/2008 20:59

Its karma isnt it - the whole coke thing is going to haunt me.

You go out with your mum

Habbibu · 06/06/2008 21:00

Doesn't anyone handy have a portable radio? Can she not listen through the PC?

cheeset · 06/06/2008 21:01

Can't she fall asleep, that's what my mum does when she babysits for us?

lucyellensmum · 06/06/2008 21:02

She does have a radio yes, but she does like her telly - she wont be able to see a portable, and the sounds buggered on the putor! DP just about to ring her - looks like its a take away a bottle of wine and our own entertainment

ConnorTraceptive · 06/06/2008 21:05

My first thought was "ISn't it a bit late to be going out NOW?"

DeeRiguer · 06/06/2008 21:05

use iplayer on computer or radio on computer
its not the end of the world
laugh it off in a lighthearted way ifwhen she looks dismayed..
but i dont watch much telly

go enjoy night out!

LuckySalem · 06/06/2008 21:06

LEM - Sorry but that's just silly.

Why don't you suggest that the kids stay at hers and you'll pick them up in the morning cos the tv's broke.

Chances are she'll say she'll be fine.

Don't cancel it just cos of a TV

what time were you meant to go out? couldnt wouldnt she just go to sleep?
bath and an early night

Flashman · 06/06/2008 21:10

LEM - Perhaps it is Gods punishment on you from earlier for making your DP look a twat infront of those other mums???? [stroking chin - going hmmmm!]

micci25 · 06/06/2008 21:11

i presume you will be buying another tv? why not just nip down to tesco and get one take away if you are that bothered about her not having a tv?

im sure she will find herself something to do anyway.
