To think my phone’s auto correct is just making stuff up now?

It just changed ‘agent’ in a sentence about publishing to ‘age band’.

How could ‘age band’ be better in that context!?

It also changed ‘living’ to ‘loving’ and that was almost worse. Among nonsense like not correcting when I clumsily type cvvhdhv instead of a real word. Ill to I’ll is another it likes to do no matter the context (my child is ill today) and so is well to we’ll.

Does your autocorrect help you or hinder you?

You can fix this in your settings.

Yes how?
Getting so much nonsense now it's a huge time waster.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 06/11/2025 06:59

I have a friend called Tina and my autocorrect changes it to tuna
It also does the ill and well .

CoffeeCantata · 06/11/2025 06:59

I hate it and I have come to think it’s sentient and is deliberately frustrating me. I’ve been really nasty about it and frequently expressed my opinion out loud and I think it’s turned against me.

Thatstheheatingon · 06/11/2025 07:00

You can turn off autocorrect but im not sure you can "fix" it.
I get now corrected to Joe all the time. Leads to some interesting messages to dh.

StokePotteries · 06/11/2025 07:03

It's controlled by the Mafia. I know this because every time I try to write don't, it autocorrects to Don with a capital D.

HTH

Knockonw00d · 06/11/2025 07:05

Write the word it keeps changing and then in the shortcut write it again. So when you type it, it will stay as that word but you’ll still have auto correct for genuine typos without turning it off

I attached images to show but they are under review.

edit: never mind! You should be able to see in your settings from the pictures I attached of where to do this

Phone autocorrects sorry to dirty. That was unfortunate when a colleague text to say that her elderly mum had finally passed away.

I replied "I am so so dirty. I'm thinking about you."

ownturmericgrower · 06/11/2025 07:12

Yes, agree and it’s ten times worse if it’s on charge too.
They listen too. Ever mentioned out loud about getting a new sofa bed, for example, and then you’re inundated with sofa bed ads ?!

therewasafishinthepercolator · 06/11/2025 07:14

It always gives me coning instead of coming. Who tf ever needs coning?

therewasafishinthepercolator · 06/11/2025 07:17

I also get the living loving thing. It always amuses DH when I talk about the loving room.

Theraffarian · 06/11/2025 07:20

Mine has started auto correcting my name , it didn’t use to , at some point I can image I will miss out correcting this and end up setting something up under the new name which starts with the same letters and is the same length . Since I type my name regularly and my new allocated name never , I wonder where it’s suddenly come from .

Cantbloodyrememberthenameonthread · 06/11/2025 07:33

There’s been an ios keyboard bug over the last few weeks

Irenesortof · 06/11/2025 07:51

I switched Autocorrect off in Settings/Keyboard. What a relief. Saving me lots of time.

My Siri was so unhelpful when it used to respond to me that I would routinely tell it it was useless. Now it only ever awakens at inopportune moments when I didn’t ask it for input, so I completely agree with you here.
