Prices are going up and I can’t get everything I need… AIBU?

Well today I've bought some lovely raspberries, sweeteners, king prawns, a bowl of salad, with some crunchy bits and dressing, and a box of skinny whips oh and some dettol floor wipe type things, for about 8 quid so I think it's still a bargain

I don’t think so.
It’s not a pleasant experience like going to Waitrose but for value for money, you can’t beat it. Limited products of course - that’s how they keep prices down but some are excellent quality
I always find myself shopping there over anywhere else because my money goes so much further.

Completely agree

I find Aldi much cheaper as they do “dupes” of a lot of my teens’ favourite snacks - e.g. Oreo dupes, Ben and Jerrys dupes, pepperami dupes, fridge raider dupes, monster munch dupes etc - with three hungry teenagers it helps massively!

My local Aldi is very good, however Asda and Morrisons are poor and quite depressing.

Love Aldi, I cook from scratch, can do nearly all my shopping there and get what ever else I need from Booths. Dislike Asda our nearest one has the heating turned off and the lights are dimmed, it’s miserable.

Actually my local Aldi is a great place to shop. Clean, well maintained by staff and easy to shop. Good ranges. And the staff are always really helpful.

I suspect we have anti-Aldi trolls/bots on here.

We have 2 aldis nearby. One is great and one was more disappointing experience than sunday roast in wetherspoons.
No bots needed!

I love Aldi. I don’t have , and never have had, a problem with their fruit and vegetables going off. I’ve still got raspberries in the fridge that I bought last Saturday that are fine to eat. I find the quality of the meat, especially the chicken breasts, much better than Asda and Tesco.

I must have bought at least 20 books for DGS for £2.99 or less which would have been double or more elsewhere. Last year I picked him up a little waterproof coat and a pair of waterproof dungarees for less than a tenner for the pair. I wish I’d bought them in every size because it’s one of the best things I’ve bought him. Aldi is great just for the middle aisle.

Both are in serious financial trouble.

I loved Morrisons as their fish ( unlike M&S and Waitrose ) isn’t frozen and defrosted and they had a focus on British produce. It’s a shame it’s gone to the wall.

I dislike Waitrose. It’s very expensive and bland. Doesn’t make me want to cook.

I love Aldi. I know where everything I need is in the store layout and when child-free and with a list I can blitz it in ten mins. I've also noticed they are starting to stock more basic ingredients for those that like to cook from scratch. Prices have gone up recently admittedly but it's still way cheaper than Tesco etc with their stupid two tier clubcard pricing + Tesco etc always seem to swap their store layout about which really annoys me no end walking up and down the aisles searching for things.

Simplelifeneeded · 07/11/2025 00:10

Just last year a pack of chocolate peanuts was only 79p when I got some yesterday they was £1.39.
Aldi have the best chocolate peanuts but I won't be buying them often.

ShaunaOfTheDead · 07/11/2025 00:19

I tend to buy ingredients in Aldi, not ready meals. They don’t have everything though, so I go to Lidl for risotto rice, coconut oil. But tins, baking stuff, stuff to make granola, bread, all the cheeses, yoghurt, coffee, avocados, jars of peppers, olives. coffee, butter, softest loo roll etc etc are all fine. M&S for meat.

ninjahamster · 07/11/2025 00:21

Yep. Gone back to Tesco. Longer dates and better quality.

I go every Sunday at 9.30am
coffee from Greggs and a chat with everyone while waiting for it to open, at the till for 9.50 and home for 10.15. If you speed past the dithering people you get the whole store to yourself
it’s great
