Prices are going up and I can’t get everything I need… AIBU?

And their cheddar cheese is hard and crumbly

Their strength 7 cheddar is the best I've ever had! I normally keep about 4 packs in the fridge as they sometimes run out of the 7 and DS15 notices if I try to find him off with strength 6!

Grilledxribs · 06/11/2025 01:15

Ive not been to aldi in years i use to but everything just went bad after a few days, other food dint taste as good either.
And the price well to me it was the same as any other store.

fivebyfivefaith · 06/11/2025 01:58

Price wise it’s gone up but then where hasn’t? I find Sainsbury’s and Tesco similar prices but choose to stay with Aldi most of the time as I prefer the food

Sesma · 06/11/2025 03:19

It's always been rubbish

spoonbillstretford · 06/11/2025 03:26

I stopped in 2022. Used to get a click and collect order every week. Prices shot up and with that and top up shops required, finding the fruit and veg poor and poor stock control, it became not enough price difference to warrant the hassle and I started getting Tesco deliveres instead.

The Aldi threads always make me laugh. My theory is that people insecure in their middle class status -the Hyacinth Buckets of the world-have to make it clear that they would never darken Aldi’s doors. Obviously they can’t just say they’re anxious about that, so they have to talk about the wonders of Waitrose or make an unspecific complaint about the mince. Working class people are sensibly pleased that they can save money and the secure middle classes are pleased at the prices but also are delighted to swap travellers tales about the ridiculously good and incredibly cheap Rosè, macarons and Coquille St Jacques….(all genuine tips, btw)

SpidersAreShitheads · 06/11/2025 04:48

I absolutely love an Aldi shop.

Their meat is really good quality, and I think it's beaten the "top" supermarkets to awards, IIRC? They have a good range of chilled food, and they're often bringing new things out.

We like quite a few of their own-brand bits, including cereals and fake Nutella and Biscoff. Tastes exactly the same at a fraction of the price.

And of course, there's always the middle aisle!

Prices are higher than they were, but that's the economy in general, not Aldi. Food shopping is extortionate everywhere now.

Customer service in both of my local Aldis is a bit shit, other than a couple of the staff who are lovely.

I sometimes get sent a money-off voucher to use at Ocado and I have to be honest, it's a world apart. Use-by dates printed on the receipts, everything bagged up properly and separated, and staff that are genuinely knowledgeable and helpful. Huge range of diverse products.

But as I'm sadly not flush enough to shop at Ocado all the time, I'm very happy with Aldi. There's also a few things that Aldi do that I can't get at Ocado anyway, so even if I was a millionaire, I'd still have to go to Aldi to get bits for DS!

lol agree ! It’s very much a class thing in how dare one shop in Aldi. I agree prices have gone up and I find their fruit and veg hit and miss at times but you can get some really nice food at much cheaper prices than the other main 4. And what’s not to like in the Middle aisle !

OnlyOnAFriday · 06/11/2025 06:20

They haven’t had frozen chicken strips with chilli sauce dip for months. I’m beginning to panic they’ve stopped doing them. Not in any branch I’ve been to.

berlinbaby2025 · 06/11/2025 06:20

I suspect we have anti-Aldi trolls/bots on here.

What a strange thing to say on an AIBU thread about a supermarket.

Arrrrrrragghhh · 06/11/2025 06:31

I only eat meat (ready rubbed pork chops or chicken) and salad leaves during the week.
Bistro salad in Aldi is 79p. £1.40 in Tesco (£1.15 on Clubcard). £2.30 in M&S.

Its the exact same bagged leaves and shredded beetroot - theres no difference.
Aldi are the only place that do the meat I’ve found. Other supermarkets only do them as barbecue summer ranges.

Prefer Tesco wine though. Much cheaper Rose.

Have a listen to "Breaking Into Aldi" by Fat White Family. It may not change your shopping habits, but it will bring a refreshing anarchy to your day 😀

Peridoteage · 06/11/2025 06:56

The nearest one to me is a 30 min drive. I went a couple of times to see if it was cheaper/worth it and was disappointed. A bit cheaper but hardly any choice, lots of things i wanted I couldn't get. It definitely isn't worth the drive for me. I've got a sainsburys & a waitrose 5 mins away and a tesco under 10 mins drive away and they have a much better selection.

Has anyone tried Aldis reed diffusers?
Are they any good? And if so which ones are the best ( so much variety.) Thanks.
Btw I have been using a brand called Cozy Nose but they are expensive.

And isn’t cheddar cheese supposed to be crumbly? Not rubbery and bendy like most crap supermarket cheese?

I think most people don’t know what some foods are actually supposed to taste like.

They look contemporary but they don’t smell unless you stick them under an open window

I was wondering whether this post was meant to be a compliment or criticism. Soft and rubbery cheddar is normally that "mild" tasteless version.

PonkyPonky · 06/11/2025 07:12

I still love my Aldi! It’s a lot cheaper than the big supermarkets. Only a little cheaper than Lidl but I get such a weird vibe in my local Lidl and they’re incredibly slow at the checkouts in there. So I stick with Aldi and it’s never let down.

DeafLeppard · 06/11/2025 07:19

My Aldi shop is a good £20-£30 cheaper than Tesco.

borntobequiet · 06/11/2025 07:24

Very happy with the stock availability and quality (particularly of fresh meat, fish, dairy and vegetables) in the three Aldi branches I visit and can get pretty much everything I need bar a few specific items I pick up in other supermarkets from time to time. YABU.

TiredCatLady · 06/11/2025 07:28

Gave up on Aldi a while ago. Closest one is a 20minute drive away with a particularly brutal ANPR car park.
The quality of the own brand stuff, meat/fish and veg has really taken a nose dive, and they seem to continuously have stock problems. It’s just not cheap enough to warrant the journey only to then have to go and do another shop to get everything they didn’t have and then add on top ups because half the bag of peppers were rotten by the next day.
Lidl is good but it’s even further away.

goingtotown · 06/11/2025 07:30

Aldi fruit & veg always past its best.

Flamingmentalcats · 06/11/2025 07:30

We have stopped buying meat there as it's not good. Last chicken we bought was so bad even my husband couldn't eat it. The fruit and veg goes off far too quickly. I bought strawberries in summer and they had gone mouldy the day after and they were in the fridge.
The Middle isles aren't what they used to be. They advertise the items but you can never find them in store.
The bakery bit is good though and we like that we can be in and out in about 10 minutes where the same shop in Asda would be about 30!
I have found that Asda is about the same in price at Aldi for what we buy.

dontletmedownbruce · 06/11/2025 07:36

Not sure about Aldi, but TKMaxx is definitely not as good as it once was.
