New car damaged before delivery - just my luck!

Waited in for new car (new to me but 1 year old) to be delivered this morning from a national chain car dealership.

Got a text confirming time then just after that time had passed, got a call saying the car transporter bringing the car down had been involved in an RTA and the movement of the car in the transporter had caused some damage. Car sent back to dealership for repair which looks to be just cosmetic. No idea when it’s going to be delivered now and I can’t back out of purchase apparently!

My old car has been sold and is due to be collected tomorrow so I will now not have a car for an indeterminate time.

Can’t car share with DH as he works too far away and leaves too early so will have to send DS to school in an Uber (no buses).

I just can’t believe this after a really shitty year. Looking forward to a nice new automatic car after having to have a manual for a few years.

Had this ever happened to anyone else? Can I demand compensation?

If it’s just cosmetic and they fix it, why do you want to pull out?
have you seen what the damage is

either way I’m pretty sure you’ll have rights around a refund, and someone more knowledgable than me will be a long to confirm :)

I would imagine their insurance could pay for courtesy car surely? Have you asked?

Yes you do have rights to pull out. You bought a car in good condition. They have to supply the goods as they were purchased.
