To buy myself a kitchen aid?

i have always been a keen baker and have been asked to do a few cakes for family, I try to bake weekly and want to expand my skills. But I really struggle at the moment as I live with my parents and we only have hand whisks.

I have the money saved and am able to afford it, I’ve had a pretty rubbish year and would like to treat myself to one ahead of Christmas. AIBU to just buy it?

I had a cream one as a present, it’s stunningly beautiful, sitting in a corner in our kitchen. I hate using it. I know many love them but it’s way too bulky and heavy and even doing a simple sponge, the mixture sticks to the sides and you have to lift up the heavy top to scrape it down. I dust and clean it but never use it. I use my ancient old tatty one in the cupboard, but I wouldn’t get rid of it. I’d love to know what the ‘everyday users’ use theirs for daily.

@IThoughtIdHeardItAll get a KA-TH beater

Eliminates “the mixture sticks to the sides and you have to lift up the heavy top to scrape it down” situations

Get it OP. I love mine. Even on the days I don’t use it, it just sits there looking beautiful for me to admire, and it makes me smile.

I’ve had my Kitchen Aid for 25 years and it’s fab. I also have a 30 year old Magimix. I’ve just replaced two parts on my Magimix and it’s still going strong. It’s well worth buying quality.

Is it a necessary purchase? Absolutely not, I've made marshmallows by hand previously and, if I can do that, I can do pretty much anything!

Is it unreasonable to buy one for yourself? Also, absolutely not. You'll get untold joy from making all your cakes and bakes.

Mine is inky blue 😍

Having said the above, I do think kenwood machines are better made. But the KA are so pretty to look at. Mine stays on my counter; I wouldn't keep a kenwood out.

My KitchenAid is fab! Even better since learning that you can adjust it so that the paddles/hook/whisk etc can be closer to the bottom of the bowl!

I received one as a present also, with my name on it. I love it and use it all the time! Enjoy yours and happy baking!

I’m thinking of getting one too.

I have a kenwood, it’s 61 years old and has finally stopped working. It might be fixable and I’m tempted to look into getting it done, but I just fancy an nice new machine.

research is pushing me to stick to a Kenwood, I have my eye on the kenwood titanium which is rather over budget but I’m waiting for Black Friday to see if it’s reduced. If not I will look at what is before deciding.

the kitchen aids look good, but I’ve heard they aren’t such good work horses as kenwood, though I would like to hear other peoples opinions.

i think you need to think about what you want to use it for, I’m mainly thinking of bread and pasta with the occasional cake so I need something that can handle the kneading.

Agree. My MIL was a serious cake maker and baker abd always opted for kenwood (and bought me one!)

If you tilt the head back, there's a screw you can turn that adjusts the height of the beater.

Yes! What’s stopping you?

I added the red KitchenAid to my wishlist at John Lewis in the hope that my entry is picked in the next £500 wishlist draw!
