To buy myself a kitchen aid?

IcingOnTheTop · 05/11/2025 09:18

i have always been a keen baker and have been asked to do a few cakes for family, I try to bake weekly and want to expand my skills. But I really struggle at the moment as I live with my parents and we only have hand whisks.

I have the money saved and am able to afford it, I’ve had a pretty rubbish year and would like to treat myself to one ahead of Christmas. AIBU to just buy it?

Go for it!! They're great!

BlueWorkDay · 06/11/2025 19:27

Kitchen Aid have the worst customer service I have experienced in decades. For a premium product, the service is so bad it felt like a scam!

Just read their trust pilot reviews!!

The mixer arrived damaged and it took over 3 months to get a refund.

So if you maut buy one, don't but one directly from KA. Go through a retailer such as John Lewis.

bridgetreilly · 06/11/2025 19:36

When I got my first ever proper grown up pay cheque I treated myself to a stripy Kenwood chef and I love it. Do it!

TheeNotoriousPIG · 06/11/2025 19:55

Have you ordered it yet, OP? Pistachio looks like a lovely colour!

I have one in white. It looks so magnificent that it lives on the worktops at all times, and I made some lovely sticky toffee puddings in it recently!

Whatever you buy just be warned- last night in the final on The Great British Bake Off one of the 3 finalists glass mixing bowl cracked and broke and he had to redo his mix.
I wouldn’t be getting a glass mixing bowl.

That happens to someone every year!!

Deliveroo · 06/11/2025 20:01

So much love for KA. I love how mine looks and that it’s powerful but my old cheapie aldi mixer was a much better design, didn’t spray my kitchen and wasn’t ever threatening to break my toes.

Ferretbitme · 06/11/2025 20:04

I bought myself one when I was mildly delirious from covid and had nowhere to put it. Zero regrets

sesquipedalian · 06/11/2025 20:30

I cook a lot, and I love my kitchen aid - I got it when we re-did our kitchen, to replace an old Kenwood Chef. Get one with a metal bowl, and it’s also worth getting a splash guard to avoid having a kitchen covered in a fine layer of flour! You won’t look back, and will wonder how you ever managed without one.

WendyFromTransvisionWamp · 06/11/2025 20:39

I’m not a baker yet own a KitchenAid. I use mine for making occasional yorkshire pudding or pancake batter but it is best for shredding chicken. So quick!

boodlesandpoodles · 06/11/2025 20:40

Yes - you will have it forever - even if they break they are fixable therefore a lifetime investment. Have had my mint green one for 15years never had an issue.

Yes get it - but maybe wait for Black Friday as I got a great deal on ours 5 years ago. Still use it every day.

I got a refurbished one (direct from KitchenAid) on eBay in 2017 for about £170 during Black Friday. Candy apple red with a glass bowl. It's a thing of beauty and a total workhorse.

BookSmith · 06/11/2025 20:43

Do it! They last forever. It’s one of the only things I allow ‘out’ in our kitchen - a thing of beauty.

Pedallleur · 06/11/2025 20:43

100+ on eBay auction. Seem to be around £200 for a 4.8l

onetimeonlyipromise · 06/11/2025 20:52

I’m also planning to get one - sign up to the Kitchen Aid Black Friday alert as I think they are doing an early deal to those that do in the next week or so.

I currently have a Kenwood. It’s 15 years old and still works well, but I’ve managed to break some of the attachments. It’s a sturdy machine though - I turned my back on it once while it was kneading dough - the weight in the bowl caused it to move along, and off, the counter, falling and landing on a marble tiled floor. A chunk of the machine came off. It still works and has done for 10 years.

RawBloomers · 06/11/2025 20:53

Exciting, OP! I love my Kitchen Aid. I've had it over 15 years and have no regrets. It's pretty to look at even when I'm not regularly baking. It does have its quirks, there are probably better mixers out there, but to me baking is a labour of love and the Kitchen Aid fits right in.

What's the first thing you're making?

rzm · 06/11/2025 21:07

What size did you get OP? I’m really confused by the price points and sizes. I’d like the pink one but can’t work out what a good price is.

Frenzi · 06/11/2025 21:13

I have a Kenwood Chef and love it. You can get so many attachments for it - I make sausages, mince meat, make bread, cakes, smoothies.

I prefer the look of the Kitchen Aid but I think (without having too much research admittedly) you can do the same as the Kitchen Aid plus so much more with the Kenwood Chef.

ibuprofenhead · 06/11/2025 21:17

Go for it; I’ve had mine for 23 years! Still love it. Still looks fabulous.

JayJayy · 06/11/2025 21:46

Check farmfoods. They often have kitchen aid and I got the professional one last year for around £180 as they let me use a load of vouchers as well!

Edited to add. I had a kmix previously and it broke within three years sadly

IcingOnTheTop · 06/11/2025 21:48

It came tonight and I made butter in five minutes! It’s so quiet as well

It’s the 5.5L one, £350 down from £550

Mine was a wedding present and has been going strong these last 23 years. It remains my favorite gift.

soupyspoon · 06/11/2025 22:54

That other brand that a poster linked to, does it do grating and shredding

And is it cheaper to make your own butter, I get through a hell of a lot of it for cooking and its really expensive

MrsDexter · 06/11/2025 23:20

BadgernTheGarden · 06/11/2025 08:42

I just use a hand held electric mixer, it has dough hooks as well. Works well and much easier to store.

Which mixer do you have pls. Thanks

I’m not sure it would work out to be any cheaper as it would take a lot of cream to hit the amounts needed for baking, but it’s fun
