My son is a June baby and has some development issues - appears to have autistic traits (slow processing, mainly solitary play, weak core muscles, verbal but speech not in line with age, frustrated easily) but no formal diagnosis yet. Given it's not at the extreme end of the scale, I have been told that I will likely struggle to get an EHCP and he will need to manage in a mainstream school.
He is currently 3 years old and as he is a Summer baby, school can apparently be deferred a year. I am London based and understand that this is something in Scotland but not commonly in the England as far as I am aware.
My concern is that my son is very physically big (very tall, sturdy build) and that he would look huge next compared to peers if he deferred so could face a lot of bullying.
Experiences from others would be much appreciated.
YABU - Let him try joining school at usual age - give him a chance.
YANBU - I should defer, bullying won't be an issue.
