Are you surpsied at this weather for November?

It's 14C. Up north of all places and it is 6:30pm in November. Are you surpsied as this time last year was about 11 or 12C. Do you think this is the norm now. What do you think will happen at Christmas as it got up to 11C on Christmas Day last year here and the year before it was 11 too. I've heard of worse unseasonal weather. 29C in most places in October 2011 and a 10C day in West Yorkshire in June 2017 (or was it 16). Is this normal for November. Is this also good to put the heating on as when it only got to 13/14 in June 2024 people thought that was cold (albiet it was the daytime) and central heating was on (went to single digits at night if I remeber correctly). But in November it's mild at 14C

It just scares me tbh.

It's November and Ive not even got a my proper coat out yet.

We're going to see fireworks tomorrow night. Even just a 5 ears ago we'd have needed to wear a bobble hat etc for them. I doubt Ill even need my fingerless gloves.

Cece92 · 04/11/2025 19:37

Last week it was -2 at mine and frost this week it’s definitely warmer

Danikm151 · 04/11/2025 19:38

Pissing it down in Brum and that’s making it feel colder!

verybighouseinthecountry · 04/11/2025 19:40

Was just thinking this today. It's definitely warmer and not as much rain. I remember walking home from school at this time of year as a teen and my legs would have purple blotches from the cold and the wind was biting.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 04/11/2025 19:41

We're just in a warm air section at the moment. It happens sometimes, depends on the wind direction - last week we had frosts. Tonight I've got a fan going in my bedroom as it's too warm!

Thegreyhound · 04/11/2025 19:42

It’s climate change. It’s extremely frightening. Look at what is happening to migrating birds for example.

MauriceTheMussel · 04/11/2025 19:42

I was thinking about this too. Other years I’d have had the full on winter coat out now, but I’m still in a trench coat

PistachioTiramisu · 04/11/2025 19:44

Just normal changeable weather. When I was a child in the 60s, some 5th November were cold, foggy and gloomy, others were warm and misty. It really is no different. Climate change is a try hard brainwashing myth.

BlackeyedSusan · 04/11/2025 19:44

February, on the beach, people in shorts and t shirts. (Several years ago now) About 7 or 8 years ago weather patterns seemed to change to being much more random.)

RobinTheCavewoman · 04/11/2025 19:44

We've not had a frost yet - was waiting for one before planting my tulip bulbs but they will just have to take their chances this weekend.

Rainallnight · 04/11/2025 19:45

Yep, it’s freaking me out.

CaptainMyCaptain · 04/11/2025 19:47

I took this photo today while walking my dog. A meadow full of wild flowers including sunflowers. Near Sheffield.

Forecast says 17 tomorrow here in mid Kent. Dried two loads of washing in the line. Sunny autumn day here.

NuffSaidSam · 04/11/2025 19:48

It is very mild (as I've remarked to everyone I've met this week because I'm so British I don't have any other small talk).

I've got my winter coat out because it feels wrong not to, but I'm just too hot everywhere I go.

Comedycook · 04/11/2025 19:48

I remember as a child going back to school in September and it being really cold..now I see September as basically still summer.

Notmyreality · 04/11/2025 19:48

cant say I’ve noticed any different.

ShiftySquirrel · 04/11/2025 19:49

I've got early spring bulbs coming out, but also this year's roses, cosmos, dahlias, verbena and nicotiana are all still on flower. The second we have a frost things will die off, but we've not had one yet.

Tell that to those facing the brunt of it- Jamaica most recently. Look at what is happening in Antarctica. It is actual madness to deny climate change.

Chipsahoy · 04/11/2025 19:53

This time last year I was sitting outside with a cup of tea or at least in the day time. My fb has reminded me. So it was mild last year too.
However, this weeks warmth is due to the tail of the hurricane that hit Jamaica.

I am not arguing that climate change isn’t real, sure it is but it’s not a sudden thing. It’s slow. We are in general warming up, but this mild period doesn’t concern me at all.
We had snow here a couple of weeks ago (rural Scotland)

Thank you for your data there professor. Can we see your working?

Edwinstarrihavefaithinyou · 04/11/2025 19:56

Really mild in Aberdeen today.
In years gone by it would be ice box weather.

I’m 42 and my birthday is September, it’s always been a changeable month, some years hot enough for a bouncy castle in the back garden party, other years pissing it down and miserable.

I remember Halloween a few years ago it was 21degrees and we were in shorts and T-shirts. I do believe the science that climate change is happening but the current weather in the U.K. seems on par with normal seasonal changes.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 04/11/2025 19:58

Yes I remember being frozen solid on fireworks night, even through I was wrapped up in a a big coat, hat, scarf and gloves. Didn’t even need a coat today 😳

Whatshesaid96 · 04/11/2025 20:02

I've got strawberries in a greenhouse that have just flowered again. I'm beyond confused as are they.
