Beckham and his knighthood.

Crazy that people who get paid for everything they do, get knighthoods.
The real heroes are the people like the worker on the train on Saturday who put his life on the line to save others.
Have the Beckhams ever done anything brave or heroic?

Thought not. Everything they do is for attention also.😏

He's a twat, and so is his dopey wife. I always thought that though. He could certainly kick a football around, in his day, but it's hardly earth changing stuff being good at sports, and watching her trying to be an ambassador for something or other a couple of years ago was cringeworthy, she can barely string two sentences together.

I watched some of the documentary about them that came out a year or two ago and when it got to the bit where he was sticking his cock in other women and she was basically singing "Stand by yooouur maaaan" I was done watching. I try to avoid any mention of them both whenever possible.

But if he's been giving to charity and isn't actually a pedophile (like several of those knighted have been) I don't see any reason why he can't have a knighthood, they give them away like chocolate bars at Hallowe'en.

WineBeforeWhine · 04/11/2025 22:03

There are a lot of jealous people on this thread.

You're trying to avoid them by writing one of the longest posts in the thread about them? Interesting! And you say she's dopey...

Wait - you think this brief reply I dashed off is a long post? Oh dearie dearie me. Nothing you can possibly say has the tiniest bit of credibility now. How embarrassing for you 😅😂😆

sittingonabeach · 05/11/2025 07:46

For those who are moaning about DB getting a knighthood how many more deserving people (in your minds) have you nominated for an award?

LivingTheDreamish · 05/11/2025 07:55

I don't begrudge him his knighthood. I thought it was fairly normal for a sportsperson of his caliber to receive one? He's waited longer than most.

Didi he have to wait a bit longer because of tax issues?

Crankyaboutfood · 05/11/2025 07:58

My country’s politics are a hot mess, but as an outsider I never understand how you still have a monarchy and aristocracy and spent any money at all on preserving the privileges of the royal family.

DickDewey · 05/11/2025 08:04

The honours system is outdated and colonial and heavily biased towards celebrities who I don’t think deserve honours. I also think Beckham’s a twit.

It should be there to recognise genuine public service only.

XWKD · 05/11/2025 08:10

Netcurtainnelly · 04/11/2025 11:18

Not the right reason to do it.

You wouldn't know about his knighthood if he wasn't famous. Loads of people get knighthoods for their good work. You don't know his motivation, which is irrelevant anyway. Presumably the people involved in the train attack will be honoured for their bravery.

How do you define genuine public service? How can you get in the heads of everyone who nominated to know their motivations?

ClinkeyMonkey · 05/11/2025 08:17

I reckon the thing to do is let go of the fact that any of this shit matters. Then you won’t care about Sir David and his ridiculous title. I know I don’t.

Dollymylove · 05/11/2025 08:39

Sadiq Khan has a knighthood

Ill just leave that there...

I think you are the one who should be embarrassed. That poster said you made one of the ‘longest posts in the thread’, which is true. That doesn’t mean anyone considers your post particularly long.

Bet he can't even ride a horse, or use a lance, sword or shield. Bit of a crap knight really.

You’ve just made me sing all three verses of ‘When a Knight Won His Spurs’ out loud to DH’s surprise that I could remember every word.

Favourite hymn because you could really belt it out and there were limited references to god and there were dragons and giants and steeds in it.

It’s funny isn’t it how excited we’d be when that was the hymn of the day. I feel sad for the kids these days that they don’t have that anymore! It was a top hymn!

And had tantrums because he didn’t get one before! It shouldn’t be normal for a sportsperson to get one , only if they’ve give exceptional service in some other area, charity etc, perhaps related to their sport. To dish them out too easily devalues them.

MrsArcher23 · 05/11/2025 20:34

Gavin Williamson is a Sir. And Nadine Dorries almost managed it. Not exactly high standards anymore…

Yes indeed. Glorified fireplace salesman and frankly terrible education secretary. Oh and a bully.

Netcurtainnelly · 04/11/2025 10:57

He was motivated to do what he did, because he wanted a knighthood and thought it would help.

So what? His motive is irrelevant, the result is the same. Many footballers have been knighted without achieving half the benefit to society Beckham has.

He captained his country and has done huge amounts for charity. What more do you want?!

(I'll skip over your 'tantrum' comment otherwise I'll have to ask how and what you know about his tantrums and you'll have to admit you read it in a tabloid newspaper which is famous for making stuff up).

Which professions do you think are deserving if not sports people? (Bear in mind approx 20million people watched the recent Euros final to give some context around the impact football has).

Tourmalines · 06/11/2025 01:31

Whether or not he personally benefits from his fame and charity work doesn’t change the fact that he has had a massive positive impact . He played at the very top of world football for decades, represented England with distinction , raised millions for charities and promoted British sport on a global stage . The knighthood isn’t about someone who is perfectly selfless. It’s about lasting contribution to which he ticked the box . His career and charity work changed lives, that’s what knighthoods are for .

Meadowfinch · 06/11/2025 01:36

OP, the Daily Mail is hardly an unbiased source !

And so his moral compass, behaviour and language are irrelevant, yes ok?!
