Beckham and his knighthood.

Crazy that people who get paid for everything they do, get knighthoods.
The real heroes are the people like the worker on the train on Saturday who put his life on the line to save others.
Have the Beckhams ever done anything brave or heroic?

Thought not. Everything they do is for attention also.😏

The leaked emails basically confirmed it. So we do know…

Edited

My point is that whatever leaked emails say, they don't tell us everything that goes on in a person's head. It's not like an admission of guilt for killing someone. It's about a person's entire motivation over a long period of time and is more complicated than a gotcha.

Ok, go ahead and choose that hill to die on. You’re the one writing essays about DB and his knighthood :/

simplesimoneatspie · 04/11/2025 15:45

Sir David Beckham ….🤣🤣

simplesimoneatspie · 04/11/2025 15:46

This country just gets more embarrassing by the day…

dannyufcfan · 04/11/2025 15:48

You're over thinking it. They are given out like candy, these days. Nothing more to it than that.

Agree OP. He's a huge, vain, overpaid twit. I don't think any sports people should get honours. They are recognised enough through their achievements. The system should be reserved for those who give dedicated service to the country.

Overpaid? Footballers, especially at the highest levels, are entertainers who fill 60000+ seat arenas most weekends.

Their matches are sold to hundreds of millions around the globe on pay TV subscriptions.

They generate massive incomes for the clubs they play for. If not to the players, where should all this money be going?

MrsArcher23 · 04/11/2025 15:54

He’s been chasing that knighthood for years. His wife must be delighted.

pumptrumporboff · 04/11/2025 16:57

Catpiece - The Beckhams do nothing behind the scenes.

What a sad little world we live in. Beckham is one of the greatest footballers this country has ever produced. He was, in his prime, one of the greatest footballers the world has ever produced. Why are people so desperate to belittle people's achievements? It smacks of small mindedness and jealousy.

Grow up and give your head a wobble OP, see if you can shake that enormous chip off your shoulder.

Whilst as I mentioned earlier I am not offended by his knighthood, he is nowhere near the greatest English footballer. He may have been one of the most hardworking on the field and in training, but there were several in the Manchester United team whose talent was greater. Paul Scholes for one.

David Beckham didn’t receive an OBE for bravery or heroics. He was honoured for his service to Sport, which went beyond personal achievements through his contribution to UK football, International football and Sport in general.

Other awards exist for bravery through the Honours system, including the George Cross, George Medal and Kings Gallantry Medal (for civilians, military have their own awards).

Maybe the people involved in the recent train stabbing will be formally recognised. Maybe they won’t. People do heroic things every day that are appreciated by those that are impacted. Unfortunately not everyone who does something great will be formally recognised by our honours system because it would be impossible to manage that.

Those who acted selflessly in the train incident certainly deserve recognition, as for knighthoods, how about Kevin Sinfield?

TofuEater · 04/11/2025 17:28

Why the particular issue with Beckham? I'm a big fan of Simon Russell Beale but I doubt he's saved anyone's life recently...

SpottyAardvark · 04/11/2025 17:38

Awarding honours to the country’s top sportspeople & entertainers has been common practice for decades. Actor Laurence Olivier was knighted as long ago as 1947.

Given that Beckham is an ex-England captain and one of our greatest ever players who has also done a lot of charity work & played an important role in securing the 2012 Olympics for his home city, he is as deserving as anyone else in sports & entertainment.

Gerranium · 04/11/2025 17:55

It’s not a bravery award, it’s an award for high achievement. And love him or hate him, he’s a high achiever, and personally I think he’s a great ambassador for this country.

Hmm, I don't think people at Harper's school would have seen it like that.

What a petty small minded post. he had a high profile and successful career in sport. He represented his country at the highest level. He does a lot of charity work and promotes GB as a great sporting nation and destination. I think he deserves it. Why do people always want to pull others down - completely baffles me, let people succeed and celebrate it.

Well said!

It's ok not to like people in the limelight
doesn't mean you're any of the things you've suggested

UntamedShrew · 04/11/2025 18:35

Interesting a previous poster didn’t agree that footballers are overpaid. It’s not about where the money should go, it’s that so much shouldn’t be sucked from the fans in the first place. Going to a match or even watching a match on tv shouldn’t be beyond the reach of so many fans, financially.

i do wonder if sir becks will cancel his unicef direct debit now it’s all sorted…

His comments after he didn’t get it the first time and his brown nosing the RF somewhat tarnishes it.

sleeppleasesoon · 04/11/2025 19:43

The whole class system is harmful and exploitative.

If he really cared about those in need he’d have paid his taxes.

But that doesn’t give the same ego boost or public adoration.

Including sporting service or excluding sporting service?

unsync · 04/11/2025 20:25

🙄 Does it ever occur to the hard of thinking that having money is what enables people like Beckham to do charity work? If you don't need to work to support yourself, you can use that time to make a positive contribution to society.

Fairyfalls · 04/11/2025 20:36

He was very respectful standing in the queue to pay his respects to the late Queen. Didn't push in like some others did.....

His wife is a knob though.

Ah yes, Lady Beckham

But it's basic capitalism, sell at the highest price the market will accept.

Why should some people sell their labour at lower than market rate?

If some families are priced out of the top tier of football in England at least there's plenty of lower league teams.
