GB news treated this mum badly, when she is trying ti raise £1.5 million to send her son to Stanford

There is a mum trying to raise money to send her son to Stanford for heart surgery
The mum has been doing tv and radio plugs, which has elped

this morning GB news told her not to do anymore interviews and held her waiting in a virtual room for an interview for 50 minutes and then just dropped her - she had the opportunity for another interview but due to this couldn't do it

GB "new" are unreasonable to just leave her like this hanging on after telling her they wanted no other coverage and she could have worked today with another tv or radio show to get coverage to help funds. Its a bad way to treat someone

this money has a time frame as the child is on palliative care and its a case of waiting until the moneys raised and then he can be flown out

there are far bigger stories and tragedies in the world that need covering, many of which we rarely hear about

that has far more to do with how news is purchased and due to news making money - journalism has changed dramatically over the last 50 years to a cash cow rather than news giving

An ill little boy isn’t really national news though is it? You can’t really be offended by a news channel wanting to make money when you only went on there to generate money.

Agreed. Plus Ollie’s mum has already been on GB News.

Is this some convoluted way of having a go at GB news to satisfy your far left resentment of anyone who thinks differently to you?

You don't need to be far left to see that GB news is propaganda for the far right.
Those of us who are centrists can see right through its hate filled bile as well.

Toto0 · 04/11/2025 07:32

fairly standard for human interest type stories like that to be held and then bumped regardless of network. Poor form for them if it happened as described for them not to have explained to her though before (that it might be a possibility) or after

Plus this thread is just an incredibly naked attempt at getting more donations.

Plus the US hospital are setting the date of the operation now so not sure what more publicity is needed.

I understand your point but don't see its relevance to my point. They chose other stories to tell which were more 'important' (dramatic, or part of their preferred political narrative, or financially beneficial, or controversial etc).

Yeah exactly. Constantly trying to get more and more donations whilst never actually saying ‘wow guys thank you so much for x person for donating 100k x2’ seems like she just expects the public to cough up for her kids surgery.

Don’t be cruel. She expects the public to cough up is the whole point of raising money so not exactly hiding her motive is she? She’s fighting for her child’s life and has quite impressively raised close to a million what are you doing?

You clearly haven’t seen her TikTok account because she’s constantly updating everyone and saying thanks. Pathetic to kick a mother who’s just doing whatever it takes to keep her child alive.

Your comment says far more about you, thinking of ways to bring left or right wing politics into this whilst many others are rallying regardless of their political views to help get a baby to where he needs to be

They were not the 1st to bring in left or right wing politics, but you seem to have ignored the others. I wonder why?

MalteserGeezee · 04/11/2025 08:57

This is absolutely standard for live TV. It's nothing personal. Rachel Reeves has done a live speech this morning that would have taken priority. Wishing this lady luck with her fundraising efforts.

She has my sympathies but, to be brutally honest, there are far bigger stories and tragedies in the world that need covering, many of which we rarely hear about. A major news channel has to be ready and able to adapt to ongoing events.

So why tell her they were going to cover this one in the first place?

If something more important came up then why not just send her a message saying sorry, we have had to change the schedule. Instead of leaving her in the waiting room for an hour, then cutting the link with no explanation.

She’s raised £1.3m, the US hospital has agreed to set the operation date, why does this still need publicity?

She hasn’t said how much is going to the hospital and how much on expenses.

They probably tried to fit her in. No one is guaranteed a slot.

How do you know that happened? The Op has admitted she posted the thread to get around the rules around not being able to post links to Go Fund Me.

Greggsit · 03/11/2025 22:04

It seems odd you're picking on GB news for this. Every newsroom in the world has to change schedules around. Stories, interviews, people get rearranged or dropped. Quite honestly, a 50 minute wait doesn't sound like much, and she could go elsewhere after. It's just a reality of a constantly changing, busy news environment. It's highly unlikely there was anything malicious in it.

And for the record, I don't watch it.

Edited

Exactly right. That’s how newsrooms work - all
of them. This is a complete non story.

The real question is why she has to take her child overseas for medical care when the NHS drains so much money from taxpayers. There is no money shortage in the NHS. It’s just spent inappropriately.

I would like to know this because the shunts are inserted in the UK.

Article from an Italian team doing the surgery a couple of decades ago.

Because they have to have raised the full amount before they go. The hospital has simply agreed to set the date, it can't actually go ahead without the extra funds.

I saw the original video that Ollie's mum made. She said she was put into a waiting room for an hour then with no communication at all she was just cut off.

The £1.5m isn't the cost of the surgery, it's the 'total fundraising goal'.

The hospital wouldn't set a date unless they have been paid.

Why are you asking me what im Doing for a child I’ve never met?

All im saying is would it kill her to thank the people who have donated huge huge amounts of money purely so her child can have an operation? Rather than just continuing to as for more and more ? She’s clearly on her phone a lot so how long does it take for her to say ‘huge shout out to x y z for their massive (hundreds of thousands of pounds donations) before or after her ‘please donate to Olly please we need to get more money so we can go to America, please donate everything you can, everything helps’

I guess it was a possibility and I doubt they guaranteed the item would be included. They obviously have to be flexible because of changing circumstances and breaking events.
