If they say that they are sick n tired of the sight of them or find it difficult to clean around them.

Don’t put the tree up early then!

Newsflash! Some people do things differently. You don’t necessarily have to agree with them, just accept that we all do things our own way.

WeeGeeBored · 01/11/2025 14:35

Because it cheers them up. And we all need cheering up right now, don’t we?

But you celebrate Christmas 🤔. Advent is the preparation for Christmas, lent is the preparation for the down of good Friday followed by the up of Easter and presume Eid is the natural follow on from Ramadan.

We put our decorations up once school holidays finish - most come down on 12th night and a few things are left until Candlemas.

We celebrate that’s partying time🥂🎁🥳🎉

For some people the run up is the fun bit and the day itself.
Once it gets to Boxing day its over and done with especially for those who are back to work

Sideorderofchips · 01/11/2025 14:37

Because they want to? What difference does this make to you?

PracticalPixie · 01/11/2025 14:37

I think this has only started because most people now have fake trees. We have always had a real tree so usually put it up in mid-December.

However, last year my allergies were so bad I ended up getting rid of the real tree before Christmas and getting a fake one! Think I'll still put it up halfway through December though. Couldn't care less what other people do with their Christmas trees though, so i voted YABU!

I am so excited for Christmas and despite not putting up any decorations yet, I am definitely going to be doing some Christmassy things soon.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 01/11/2025 14:38

I feel that the anticipation is what makes Christmas special. That's why Christmas Eve is my favourite time and has been since I was quite small. If you start too soon, by the time it gets there, you're jaded.

cottonwoolie · 01/11/2025 14:38

We celebrate the Christmas period from Sinterklaas to Boxing Day.

Now that is a different tradition, I love the shoe stockings!

MondeoFan · 01/11/2025 14:40

Mine goes up mid December (14/15/16 then comes down on 1st Jan as I like everything to be clean and clutter free ready for my daughters birthday on 4th Jan

cottonwoolie · 01/11/2025 14:41

I love parties but think they benefit from decorations. We usually go to a neighbours NYE party & it would be weird to me for the tree etc to not be there.

QuietLifeNoDrama · 01/11/2025 14:42

It’s because the run up to to Christmas is the most exciting bit. All the magic and anticipation is created in the build up to the day. People want to prolong that feeling so they put it up early. Very few people are excited about their tree on 28th December (arbitrary date) but any date prior to Christmas is still filled with excitement.

RealReginaPhalange · 01/11/2025 14:44

I take mine down on the 27th or 29th usually

user65342 · 01/11/2025 14:45

I personally put my tree up and take it down earlier than most people because I want to. I love the run-up to Christmas but once the day is over it’s done.

Pancakeflipper · 01/11/2025 14:45

Irrationally makes me roll my eyes.
I have images of people dusting their baubles.

We have a real tree, get it early Dec and have it outside until about 12 days before Christmas. Comes down New Year.

cottonwoolie · 01/11/2025 14:46

I love my tree on the 28th as much as I do on the 20th. Perhaps more so as I am more relaxed and can sit down & take it in. We do most of our xmas stuff between xmas & new year eg panto & light show. I don't think that is unusual.

ClassicBBQ · 01/11/2025 14:49

I don't put mine up now, usually the last weekend of November. I love it up early because it makes me happy in the run up to Christmas. It's usually taken down on the 27th Dec because we're back at work and I like the house to be organised going into the new year.

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 01/11/2025 14:51

Cos its 2025 and we have free will, yay

reversingdumptruckwithnotyreson · 01/11/2025 14:52

I put mine up in the beginning of December and stays there at least til the end of January. It’s a neverending, often slightly depressing month, so I like to have a bit of cheer around the house.

Allmarbleslost · 01/11/2025 14:52

Are people really putting them up now? I can understand them being sick of the sight of it by Boxing Day if they are. First weekend of December seems to be the norm amongst people I know (my DM is horrified by this btw - she's a 3 days before Xmas decorator!)

Cougarintown · 01/11/2025 14:53

ElizabethsTailor · 01/11/2025 12:27

I used to put ours up a week before Christmas and then keep up until 6th Jan “because it was traditional”.

But then I realised it was actually the run up to Christmas in December that I really enjoyed, and it felt daft to still have the tree up in early January when everyone around me was thinking of spring and booking summer holidays.

Same! I spent years doing it "for tradition" and realized I missed the excitement of the run up because I was "waiting for the right time". Once Christmas day has gone, radio stations and shops stop playing Christmas music and people stop saying merry Christmas etc and a lot of the joy is gone.

WeeGeeBored · 01/11/2025 14:35

Because it cheers them up. And we all need cheering up right now, don’t we?

And the only way to do it is to put up your Christmas tree

usedtobeaylis · 01/11/2025 14:58

People can do what they want but I agree, it annoys me to see people putting their stuff up on the 1st November or thereabouts and then dramatically taking it all down on Boxing Day. It's a strange approach to the festive period for me.

We puts ours up on the first week of December and take it down just after New Year. It seems like the right amount of time. Extending the whole period is feeding into over consumption and constantly trying to outdo ourselves.

PistachioTiramisu · 01/11/2025 15:00

My decorations go up the second weekend in December and down by New Year's Eve as I like to start the New Year fresh and clutter-free. My parents always used to have a 12th Night Party when I was a child, and when all the guests had gone, the tree and other stuff was all taken down and packed away. It was like drawing a line under the season.

placemats · 01/11/2025 15:05

Our very old false Xmas tree (I'm allergic to real ones) was taped together last year because it was too late to buy a new one.

This year to save us from tears, we bought it early special.

The baubles were well past their use by date so new ones and lights as well.

Looking forward to putting it all up around w/c 15 December. That's 6 weeks away. It'll come down January 5th.
