Electricity certification

Unfortunately, following my other thread regarding kitchen nightmares, our nightmare continues. It turned out that the fitter sent to us by the kitchen supplier isn't certified to undertake electrical and gas work, so I had to call certified gas and electrics folks to certify his work. Gas was fine, so I now have the gas safety certificate. Electrics were not ok and need to be redone. Apparently, the wiring was wrong, something not right with the circuit connections, so the test readings were all off. I don't understand much about this but was wondering if anyone could give me ballpark range for remediation of this sort of stuff in just 1 room (kitchen).

Appreciate there isn't enough to go on here and don't need exact science. I am waiting for the report and a quote for this work but just wanted to get an idea of how much this may cost. Many thanks, everyone.

If the contractor has done a sub-par job shouldn't they be paying for the remedial works? Have you already paid them for their shonky work?

Whay did the fitters say when you contacted them?

coldiris · 31/10/2025 15:06

@Arlanymor and @Chiseltip I haven't spoken to him yet. We still owe him money for the fitting work but I am honestly of the mind to deduct the cost of remediation from what we still owe him. Having said this, I am seriously concerned that the entire sum we still owe him will not be enough to cover everything. The list of issues in the electrician's report seems rather extensive.

I am still waiting for the quote from the electrician but honestly don't think the fitter will be paying for anything because at the end of the job he was already complaining about not being paid enough and frankly towards the end really didn't care and didn't even bother clearing rubbish after himself.
