Fed up of seeing tops that are too short for me

I’m 5ft 8 and many tops in shops sit on my waist or higher. This looks stupid on me. Then from general arms movement, short tops ride up!

I just want a simple tops with either plain, a pattern or embroidered or printed things like stars, flowers etc.

They are brown and depressing! I love my bright colours

Tops all seem to have got shorter recently. Drives me mad, but I'm assuming it's a money saving exercise. I tend to buy my summer vests when I visit USA now as they still have proper lengths!

So I’m petite and I’m fed up of always paying to get trousers taken up. I’m 5 ft 4 so petite/ short is marginally too short but everything else is too long.
The cropped tops are great for me.
Im loving the browns and burgundies in the shops just now. I’m very pale and look rubbish in very bright colours.
Fashion always changes- sometimes it suits you and sometimes it suits other folk better

I think shorter tops are the fashion at the moment.

OhFeckWhatNow · 30/10/2025 17:19

I often buy tops from the tall section for this reason. The sleeve length is an issue too.

strawberrymadam · 30/10/2025 17:25

Same! 5ft 6 here.
Everything is too short on the tummy - especially women’s shirts, so I buy men’s now!

Justputsomeyoghurtonit · 30/10/2025 17:28

I spent the spring hunting for cropped tshirts that were better quality than the new look ones. All my trousers are high waisted and I like tops to sit at the waist band.

Tops that go longer than my waist don't suit me and look frumpy. I'm 5ft6 size ten on top and twelve bottoms.

But at least you have the option to take things up, when clothes are too short there really is nothing you can do

IamIfeel · 30/10/2025 17:33

I’m 5’2 and have the same problem. I find so many tops are designed too short so they sit on top of my hips and then just ride up with any amount of movement.

It’s especially annoying with jumpers and fleeces as it’s such an unflattering look and really not very comfortable. It pisses me off so much.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 30/10/2025 17:53

Agreed! I’m also 5’8”, but long body and short legs! I’ve always had an issue with tops being too short. I know cropped/boxy tops are fashionable, but there’s serious shrinkflation in tops that are meant to be longer and/or tuck-in-able.

Have you seen Bon Marche? They do trousers with 25” inside leg, My friend is your height and only buys these trousers. Most of the other stuff is ‘old dear’

This drives me nuts.

I'm 5"4 and a size 16. No-one wants to see my tummy if I hold out my arms at 90 degrees.
