To pay for one very nice meal for three big birthdays?

My dad is turning 70, my sister is turning 40, and my husband is also turning 40. All within 4 months of each other.

We are going on a big family holiday together and sharing a large villa (across a few buildings).

We are visiting an expensive destination. I was thinking as part of each of their birthday presents, then I would pay for a private chef with really nice wine etc to be hosted at the villa. Is this a cheap idea to combine three birthdays? I probably wouldn't pay for it for one or two birthdays, but with all three it becomes justifiable.

This obviously won't be the main celebration - each will celebrate closer to their own birthdays and I will attend those meals.

This sounds absolutely lovely. A big celebration with all present and then a smaller celebration close to their own special day. Just make sure you pick menu they will all enjoy.

That sounds really nice - obviously as long as it's food they'll all enjoy, but yes it sounds lovely to me!

I think it’s a lovely idea but I’d run it past them first, see what they think.

@squimpe Sounds like a good idea to me! I’d be pleased if it was my birthday.

Glittertwins · 30/10/2025 18:31

I’d be quite happy with that if mine was one of the birthdays

I agree. It’s a lovely idea but I would personally hate it. But you know your family best; if it’s something they’d love then absolutely go for it - I certainly don’t think it’s cheap of you to combine 3 birthdays like this.
