Was listening to some music today and after my playlist was finished Spotify went off on its own little algorithm-y journey, and I suddenly found myself listening to a song so beautiful I had it on repeat for about an hour. That sort of thing happens to me very rarely, so I thought I’d see if anyone else could recommend songs that have struck them in a similar way.

It was probably the only record my parents hated. Kate's message written into the centre of the album was "this album was made to be played loud". So I did.

It’s certainly not an album for the faint hearted. I never tire of the drum beat on Leave it Open!

Aaah, Aznavour! Love him. That voice! That vibrato! 'What makes a man' stopped me in my tracks.

Cherrysoup · 29/10/2025 15:02

Chvrches How not to drown featuring Robert Smith. I could listen to that on repeat all day.

I've just listened to this on Spotify and I recognise it but never watched Versailles?! It must have been used on other programmes / films too...

I think it may have been used in some films and possibly adverts too.

I love to listen to it while watching the waves crashing onto the small island where I live 😊

PixieandMe · 29/10/2025 15:33

This just happened to me on Sunday - Taylor Swift's 'Fate of Ophelia'!

I remember her from the start (I am 54) and this is one of her greatest songs, IME! Magnificent. And the video equally as brilliant.

PixieandMe · 29/10/2025 15:36

@Starlight1984

Find the River - REM

I hadn't played this album for years and my son, 19 just bought it for his car. Such a wonderful song! Such a great album.

The Whole of the Moon by The Waterboys
Give Me Your Heart Tonight and It's Raining both by Shakin' Stevens (I know, not to many people's taste these days!)
Live it Up by Mental as Anything
Break My Stride by Matthew Wilder
and
Goodnight Sweetheart by The Spaniels
All very different songs that I've loved since the very first time I heard them.
Music is such a gift and can mean different things to different people. One person's treasure is another person's trash and vice versa!

The Whole of the Moon will forever live rent free in my head as Graham Norton playing a guitar wielding, crazily upbeat priest on the episode of Father Ted when they are camping in the pouring rain.

YourTruthorMine · 29/10/2025 18:13

Yebba, My Mind. Couldn't quite believe that someone could be that good live

hipposcanweartutus · 29/10/2025 18:14

I weal up everytime I hear Lewis Capaldi’s “Survive”. After his unfortunate time at Glastonbury, to come back with such a moving song takes some doing and is a good message to all of us that have had our struggles

realsavagelike · 29/10/2025 18:20

For The Smiths fans, Suffer Little Children. So melancholy, and rightfully so. Speaking of Morrissey, I had never heard of The Smiths when I heard Suedehead on a Now album and became an instant convert. Also Kirsty McColl’s Kite album.

TreacleMoon · 29/10/2025 18:21

Lord Huron - Long lost..

It just resonates with me as an introvert.

LauraNorda · 29/10/2025 18:21

These songs, when first hearing them, made me stop what I was doing and listen.

ABC - All of my heart
Visage - Fade to grey
Human League - Love action
Tears for Fears - Mad world
Depeche Mode - New life
