Can Richard just not shhhhh and let Marina speak?! I wanted to hear what she had to say about her interview with Glen Powell but he interrupted her so many times I lost track of what she was saying. Contrast it with how she behaves when he speaks.

I like him, I'm interested in what he has to say but can he not just let her speak?
I feel like he is just like so many men who talk over women.

I actually find their podcast a bit stressful. Talking too quickly to get their points across and over each other. I'm really interested in what they have to say, just not the way they say it!

FlorenceAndTheVagine · 28/10/2025 11:46

YANBU. He cannot help himself. She’s so generous to him in terms of praising his books and plugging his work, and he just can’t let her speak without interrupting with some terrible quip and bringing the attention back to him. Typical man, but he absolutely views himself as one of the good guys.

Ineedmybru · 28/10/2025 11:50

I agree. I'm a devoted fan of the podcast but they do interrupt one another in an annoying way, Richard more so than Marina.

CodifyThis · 28/10/2025 11:59

I totally agree and it's made me turn off more than once. Especially when Marina says something in an order he doesn't like and he admonishes her in a faux jokey way, or interrupts her again and again to refer back to some stupid pun he made that wasn't funny the first time. I'd have told him to piss off by now if I was her!

MrsBirkett · 28/10/2025 12:04

I've stopped listening. The content is great but Richard is unbearable. If he's not bringing up his book/film he's mansplaining points that Marina has just made or interrupting her. He's so pleased with himself, ugh.

Yes I started watching it on you tube because the constant fighting to Speak just ended up being noise ! I watch it in bits and pieces, why don't they let each other Speak?

LastHurrahs · 28/10/2025 12:09

I was finding his continual interruptions increasingly difficult in recent months, then he seemed to back off a bit (I figured people must have been commenting on it in emails and Spotify comments, and they'd talked about it, because it's come up more than once on here, and other friends have mentioned it), but just yesterday I listened to the recent Ben Elton Q and A, and both Ben and Richard blokily yapped over everything Marina said to the point where I concluded that this told us a lot about the state of comedy/light entertainment programming and producing. It made for incredibly uncomfortable listening.

I do actually value RO's insights from a producer-y perspective, but only when balanced by Marina's take on things.

Itstoday · 28/10/2025 12:12

Yep I found myself very annoyed this morning. Marina cannot get her thought out or her story without Richard jumping in and mansplaining. And he does that weird thing where he talks in the first person when talking about something. Like he’s the celeb talking. Does my head in.
i had been looking forward to hearing about the Glen Powell interview since she did it and I don’t think I learnt anything today.

it’s really putting me
off. He can be such a bore

fortinbra · 28/10/2025 12:15

I gave up on it for this reason. She should start another podcast with a woman, or a man who will let her speak!

bridgetreilly · 28/10/2025 12:17

I love it, and I think they have really good interaction, both sparking off each other.

Coffeeishot · 28/10/2025 12:17

I wonder if they think it is debate or back and forth ? And they forget people are listening/watching, it is just really irritating.

JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch · 28/10/2025 12:19

I noticed it, but I felt like they both do it to each other!

ThePoshUns · 28/10/2025 12:23

Yes it was really noticeable int he Ben Elton Q&A, she barely got a word in. I find her observations more interesting than his and sometimes wish he would just let her talk. And he is a mansplainer!

Yes I do too I think they just want to be heard but calm down !

PerkyCyanPoet · 28/10/2025 12:31

I love the podcast for the content but I agree it’s not the easiest to listen to! I don’t think they gel particularly well, the conversation never flows properly.

NameinVane · 28/10/2025 12:32

Yes! I was running when listening to the celebrity boyfriends episode and he just kept interrupting to the extent I went - Argghh, just let her speak - out loud to the surprise of a passing dog walker.

Fifty50Fifty · 28/10/2025 12:36

I love Marina. I do NOT love Richard.

I thought the celebrity Brittish boyfriend thing was funny and accurate 😀 I wish he would have let her finish. Segments are not coming to a conclusion because of the interrupting and its chaos.

It used to, though. I'm only a fairly recent convert, so I've listened to the entire back catalogue of the publicly available episodes over the past few months, and my impression is certainly that he's doing the vast majority of the interrupting now.

Marina is an intelligent woman, and can't be unaware of this, plus I imagine listeners are saying it frequently in feedback, so one can't help wondering what she thinks. It's a very successful podcast, but I sometimes imagine her saying she's moving on, as I can't imagine she enjoys being continually talked over.

(Does anyone on here pay for membership, so they get the 'members only' episodes? I looked up the cost per month and while I can't now remember what it was, I know it struck me as outrageously expensive at the time!)

BedlingtonFloof · 28/10/2025 12:48

He's much too smug for me. He's one of those people who always has to show you how right and how right on they are, and needs to feel like the most intelligent person in the room at all times, despite being pretty average.

Even when I agree with him, which I often do, I find myself silently telling him to shut up!

Keepit100 · 28/10/2025 12:50

Too much speaking over each other and butting in from both of them if you ask me but Richard is particularly bad for making little jokes and interrupting her 2/3 times to make the same little joke. I love when Marina is just like ‘yes, ok’ or something in reply.

I also find their arguing a bit uncomfortable at times but I do love the podcast.

Thortour · 28/10/2025 12:53

His point about meeting someone who had interviewed Monroe was interesting but could have been made at the end of what Marina was saying.
Someone said they found it stressful - that's exactly it. It's stressful because she can never get into her stride, she just starts to make a point and then he starts again.

I also agree he had got better. There were a lot of comments about him interrupting on one of their Instagram posts and after that he improved.
But today was dreadful.

I skipped the Ben Elton episode because I just couldn't handle the thought of that many self satisfied men.

JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch · 28/10/2025 12:55

Can I just add my other minor gripe about TRIE? I have no idea who Glenn Powell is. I kept hearing him referred to on the podcast, and obviously he was discussed at length today but they spent so long talking over each other that I didn’t get any smarter by the end. So now I feel like I know the name Glenn Powell, and I’ve seen Marina‘s interview with Glenn Powell online over the weekend, but I have a strange Glen Powell shaped hole in my mind because I have no context whatsoever.

You weren't wrong there. It was like listening to the Comedy Establishment licking itself.
