I know the reason people NC. But why do they announce it? I’ve seen this happen not only on OPs, but even ‘NC for this comment’…

Is it because people believe that making a point of being a long standing mumsnetter gives your opinion more value, or that you want people to know you don’t want to be identified? Or has it just become part of the MN lingo?

I presume it’s to try to prove you aren’t a troll? You want to establish you are a genuine poster, but know if someone starts searching for your username, they’ll be no history, so they’ll assume you’re on a wind up.

it could also be so if someone spots your style of writing, they don’t link it to those threads as they’ll realise you want the anonymity.

No I don’t believe it was - people who nc mention those posts as “proof” of them being a long term user of the site.

Yes, troll hunting is against the rules - doesn’t stop people making comments like a pp said here “interesting first post” - ambiguous enough to not fall foul of the rules, but clear enough to post seeds of doubt into other people’s minds.

I think it’s also to prove you’re not a bot.
Although given AI learns from what we type it’ll probably start some posts with this now!
