DC has reinstated Netflix twice

I cancelled netflix in Sept due to needing to save money and the quality of what was on offer for kids. We also have Disney so really don't need both.

DD (who has suspected ADHD and breaks many rules) has managed to reinstate it not just once but TWICE. It happened because my Netflix password was saved on the TV.

I have just spoken to them and they have refunded for Oct but not for Sept because the account has been used - yeah, no shit sherlock.

A little bit of googling has revealed that this is a common problem. Aibu in thinking Netflix need to sort this our before thie theivery via kids strategy damages their reputation.

Surely there should be some kind of verification process before a streaming service can be purchased directly through a TV?

Thievery via kids?

Lol most people don’t have “thieving” kids, so you might want to take a look at the (lack of) parenting that led to this.

Cue “Blah, ADHD, blah, ND” etc..

Oh, wait; you already did 🙃

Goodness...When did Mumsnet become so stupidly sanctimonious?

DC had obviously been told not to reinstate it.

I don't need to justify my reasons for following up and and changing the password /deleting the account but needless to say, it wasn't top of my priorities.

When I have occasionally paid for a film to watch via Amazon, I actually needed to go into my Amazon account to confirm purchase. This kind of system should be standard. Everything else nowadays is checked and double checked, why not Netflix?

DC had obviously been told not to reinstate it.

But you know she doesn’t or can’t follow rules so it’s your responsibility to be on these things.

Well, there you go.

You have a DD with ADHD. If there is a way to break the rules she will often find it.
If she has adhd you may find she is much more curious than other kids and good at problem solving. She found the solution to the problem. Well done to her.

your job is to make sure she couldn’t find your password / payment details to solve the problem.

yes I agree it would be helpful if the media companies did not make it so easy but that’s not their business model

parenting lesson learnt.

now time to make sure your parental controls are in place on all devices. Porn is very easy to find for free on the internet. If you don’t take steps to block it then your kids will also have access to that and won’t even need your payment details.

take action on that now.

The rule breaking is disrespect and awful behaviour.

The rule breaking is not caused by ADHD.

Can we stop blaming every single bit of bad behaviour on ADHD? It’s depressing as fuck to see so many people who don’t have the first clue about the condition using it as a reason for teens doing what the fuck they like.

FWIW I have ADHD and am the absolute opposite of a rule breaker.
