I’ve had a hard week! Work trouble, kids playing up. Tell me something lovely that’s happened to you this week to cheer me up.

My elderly mum with dementia and breast cancer said to me thank you for being you ❤️

My DD (currently in final year of A levels) has had terrible health over the last couple of years - thankfully now much improved. But she's missed a lot of school and her predicted A level grades aren't what she was hoping for.

She is still ambitious (and obstinate!), and she put in her university applications for the particular unis she wanted, even though they were pretty aspirational and her predicted grades meant that she might not get any offers from any of them. But last week one of them gave her an offer, and the grades they're asking for are ones that she might actually get. It has boosted her confidence so much to know that she might be going to a uni she really wants. Her illness had made it seem practically impossible before.

I have had long covid for 18 months which has affected my sense of taste/smell. Today I could taste pickled cucumber for the first time since I became unwell!

My 9yo DS has been going through a particularly difficult phase behaviour-wise recently. Every day has felt like an uphill struggle. The other night, I went to tuck him in as normal and we had a chat about it. The next day, I picked him up from school and he handed me a homemade envelope made out of school notebook paper, and inside it was a little note that says “I love you Mama. Thank you for always listening to me.” 🥹🥹🥹

My team won tonight's church quiz.
Prize of a big bar of Dairy Milk each.

For the last 6 weeks my boiler hasn’t been working. Weather changing, kids in the house I was worrying and needed it to be working.

contacted 4 different gas safe engineers all of which didn’t get back to me.

Recommendation from a friend for one who couldn’t get to me for another 3 weeks, I booked him, got a date & time in the diary. Worked for British Gas for over 25 years, his family lived behind my family 2 generations back, I know them well. His parents knew my grandparents and parents as neighbours for decades!

He actually turned up at the time agreed, did his thing worked on the boiler for around 90 minutes.
Said goodbye and would send me the bill…. Bill arrived.. £80 for a service.

When I asked him about the repairs he said he only had to adjust some settings picked up by his calibration device so he did a service, boiler is a good one, in really good condition but settings had gone a bit wonky.
Lovely lovely man! Tradesmen like that are gold dust.

Alondra · 26/10/2025 06:24

I went out for a walk early this morning. Most of the people I crossed in my walk were teenagers/early 20s. Everyone said "good morning" as we passed.

NestEmptying · 26/10/2025 06:53

DD17 just triumphed playing the lead in her musical theatre group production. People were talking around me about how good she was without knowing I was her mother. Pride is not the word I"m looking for....

Mumofsoontobe3 · 26/10/2025 06:56

My 3rd and final baby is smiling more and more. My middle child has finally recovered from a horrific illness and my eldest has come on leaps and bounds these last few weeks. At one point we were told he was non verbal autistic, now he's the chattiest, most confident, happiest little soul. I'm feeling very grateful. Hope you have a better week OP!

she has decided to leave
happy days

My son unexpectedly came to stay for the weekend. We went for a lovely walk and came back and had roast dinner in front of the fire and played games and chatted til late. After a horrendous break up earlier this year he told me had met someone new 🥰

PatheticDistraction · 26/10/2025 07:21

My profoundly autistic, non verbal 6 year old said his first word in 4 years - 'brother' followed by his new baby brother's name. It was like winning the lottery.

MagicLoop · 26/10/2025 07:22

Mine are work ones (unusually!). I've had two bits of lovely feedback from colleagues (I'm a teacher). A member of SLT who popped into one of my lessons said he always likes coming into mine because it feels like stepping into a nice warm bath Grin. A bit of an unusual compliment, but I appreciate the sentiment. Another colleague sent me an effusively grateful email for being so patient, positive and kind in her performance management meeting! I'm the kind of person who tends to assume everyone else is doing a better job than me, so it was nice. I'm lucky - my students and colleagues are almost universally lovely.

One of my little students read ‘s-I-t, that is ‘sit’! on her own all by herself for the first time.

Love this! DD has started to read and it’s amazing

Icecreamisthebest · 26/10/2025 07:24

I’ve spent the day in the garden with my dog who has been rolling around on the grass enjoying the sun.

CinnamonCinnabar · 26/10/2025 07:24

Up early due to the clocks going back and the sunrise is really lovely - streaks of gold & honey & pink. Now evolved into ombre orange & gold sky.

SchnizelVonKrumm · 26/10/2025 07:28

DS2 (18m) is currently sitting in his high chair going "roar", "moo", "nap nap" (snap) when shown pictures of animals. His joy is adorable 😍

haveaword · 26/10/2025 07:30

My DS19 was anxious about our planned visit this weekend but once he’d got there and done the first thing he relaxed and enjoyed it.

I walked behind with my DH while DS chatted and joked with DD happy and content for him.

Ankleblisters · 26/10/2025 07:32

I was putting my paddleboard in the river yesterday and there were three teenage (16-17ish) boys fishing nearby. As I was inflating it I eavesdropped a little bit on their conversation. One of them was teaching the others about bird spotting, how to identify different interesting birds he had recently seen and pointed out a wagtail on the opposite bank. The others were listening carefully and asking him questions.
I'm not sure why it was so lovely but it was.
When I got on the river a kingfisher flitted by me and back again twice. I wanted to paddle back and tell them!

My DGM had advanced dementia and a year or so before she died, my mum showed her a picture of my (then) baby DC1. DGM no longer recognized any of her family members but she started crying when she looked at the pictures. There was still a mummy somewhere in there 💔

gemdrop84 · 26/10/2025 07:37

Ds came home from school last week with three certificates for his hard work across subjects, he can struggle at times so this made him so happy!
As a half term treat I have booked us a night away with an evening meal and a trip to a museum as he loves history. He was so excited when I told him.

DD is 17 and has recently got a boyfriend, initially I was going to take her too, but she has plans all week going on dates...so she's smiley all the time! Ah young love ☺️

Aaaaaaaaawwwwwww · 26/10/2025 07:38

My 12 year old DS came into my bed last night because the hamster was keeping him awake, and he’s snoozing peacefully next to me with his little paws in my lap as I drink coffee and browse MN

SnowBunting · 26/10/2025 07:39

How are you feeling today Sheepy?

This morning my dd greeted me with “Happy Christmas Mummy” when she got up. She’s
copying the bit from the first Harry Potter film where Harry and Ron say “Happy Christmas” to each other on Christmas morning. It was very cute and made me laugh.

Yesterday I spent the day with some friends, one of whom I haven’t seen for a good while because she’s moved four hours away. We ate, walked, shopped and nattered and it was lovely. Just like when we were teenagers.

My Merlin bird app picked up a goldcrest the other day. I was very excited!
