Will my hairdresser forgive me for turning up with nits?

Went to have highlights yesterday. It did take longer than usual, deeper colour and they used an extra shampooing. Now I've found nits in my daughter and 2 on me. I'm worried hairdresser might have seen some yesterday too!! Will she forgive me?!?

She’d have quietly told you and asked you to leave.
she either didn’t see or you didn’t have them at the app.

zipadeedodah · 24/10/2025 18:37

Depends on the hairdresser

Algen · 24/10/2025 18:37

You won’t be the first person to do that.

I would imagine if the hairdresser had seen something she would have mentioned it.

FionnulaTheCooler · 24/10/2025 18:38

I'm sure she would have said something at the time if she'd noticed them so chances are they probably weren't there yesterday. I doubt any hairdresser would be willing to risk contaminating their brushes etc if they were noticeable.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 24/10/2025 18:38

If she had seen any on you, I doubt she would have carried on with your appointment, @Birdh0use, so I’m as sure as I can be that you didn’t turn up with any.

We once got turned away from the hairdressers when one of the dses was found to have nits before his haircut started. They were very tactful and kind about it, but were understandably clear they couldn’t carry on.

Arlanymor · 24/10/2025 18:38

Well if you didn't know you had them at the time then it was accidental that you went to an appointment with them - you may not have had any then. Presume you gave them a ring through just in case to let them know and apologise?

Don’t ring them 🤣

TimeForTeaAndG · 24/10/2025 18:39

So, pedantry first, nits are the eggs and lice are the crawling bugs. So if you've literally only got 2 lice then likely you've just picked them up from your DD however still phone the salon first thing in the morning or send a FB/IG message to explain that you may have unknowingly attended with head lice.

Your hairdresser would hopefully have noticed if there had been anything while she was doing the foils. But they'll need to make sure all the equipment and brushes are thoroughly cleaned and sanitised so they'll appreciate a heads-up.

AnimalStyleFries · 24/10/2025 18:39

She would have most definitely said something at the time if she noticed them. They aren't supposed to do treatments on someone with lice and there's a pretty involved cleaning routine to follow if they are discovered.

utamea · 24/10/2025 18:39

She would have told you if she saw nits.

Just treat and forget.

Furnitureeurniture · 24/10/2025 18:40

Could you have picked them up from the hairdressers????!!!!!!

No? What if they picked them up at the hairdressers?! I would have given them a courtesy call to let them know at the least. We're all different I guess.

Ofstedhelp · 24/10/2025 20:17

guys,

h&s says you see them, you quietly notify the client and ask them to leave.

Everything will be put in barbicide as standard anyways between clients.

forget and move on

Birdh0use · 24/10/2025 21:21

I found them after they would have shut, and definitely suspect my daughter and not the hairdresser

When I was about 15 I went to the hairdresser for highlights and a cut and blow and only a few minutes into the appointment my hairdresser quietly excused herself and one of her colleagues came over and started brushing my hair. I didn’t know what was going on but then they kindly explained they’d found nits and wouldn’t be able to continue. I was mortified as I had no idea I had them. They were lovely and told me to book in again once they’d gone. Based on my experience I imagine they’d have told you gently and not continued if they’d seen them, so I wouldn’t worry!

elliejjtiny · 24/10/2025 21:26

I used to work at a chemist 2 doors down from a hairdresser. We were always getting mortified women coming in with wet hair asking for nit lotion. They would have said if they had seen any.

notatinydancer · 24/10/2025 22:01

Happened to me once , I had to leave. They were very nice about it. She would have said.
