Four days ago I bought my husband and myself each a bar of chocolate . Mine was plain milk which he doesn't like and his is fruit and nut and its chocolate so I like it too. Anyway mine went within an hour of me getting home. The fruit and nut is still sitting in the fridge lonely very much on view but untouched. AIbu to take a piece, as DH obviously isn't interested? ( who would leave a bar of chocolate untouched for four days?) When legally can I take it back? Is leaving chocolate uneaten so long a red flag? Should I LTB ? If so can I take the chocolate with me?

I believe there should be a clinical classification for people who neglect chocolate like this 🥼😵‍💫
I have a friend who can open a box of crocs and just eat 1, then a couple of days until the next. Same with packets of cookies. I say it’s not natural!! 😂

Definitely not natural to be eating your "crocs" @DarkYearForMySoul 😅!

MrsMoastyToasty · 24/10/2025 17:45

Who leaves chocolate? Your DH is a wrong'un.

NeverCouldGetTheHangOfThursdays · 24/10/2025 17:46

The law in our house is: if it's in the snack box on the kitchen counter it's for sharing and if it's in the bottom drawer it's mine 😂

ninjahamster · 24/10/2025 17:47

Of course you can’t, you bought it for him!
I hardly ever eat chocolate as I’m not a big fan but occasionally I’ll crave a little. So chocolate I am gifted often hangs around for months!

JoeSikoraTommysStory · 24/10/2025 17:49

Get it in ya! put the wrapper in the outside bin & play dumb 😬

I store chocolate in the freezer, I hate the taste of melty chocolate, I like it cold and crunchy.

I nearly broke my teeth on a snickers that I bit into on the top of a very cold and snow mountain. I prefer the fridge!

Linnetto · 24/10/2025 17:54

Case law dictates that after 48 hours unopened chocolate shall be deemed refused by any and all recieving parties and, as such, reverts to the possession of the original purchaser to consume, dispose of, or bequeath as they see fit.

So, essentially, you're legally A-OK. Duty-bound even.

Somebody else’s chocolate is never fair game!

This. Keep away from his chocolate. He's saving it.

MN would tell you LTB if he ate your chocolate.

CurlewKate · 24/10/2025 18:01

I’m on his side because he understands that chocolate MUST be cold. Tell him if he needs help to bury you, I’m available. And ask if he has ever tried very thin slices of Mars Bar directly from the freezer.

This is just what I needed to hear. Thankyou. Is your name Elle? Do you own a chihuahua Did you get your law degree from Havard? If so I know I can trust you

My mother did that with Mars bars!

Twinkylightsg · 24/10/2025 18:03

I will say never or you ask.

Pisses me off when OH does this. I will eat it when I am in the mood to enjoy it and feel like chocolate.

At the end does piss me off but not enough to start a full out war over. Might give him glares and cuss him out a bit but that's about it.

Errr, I left an Easter egg untouched for 6 months and then binned it.

Our boys thought I was an alien.

I found a boxed Easter egg in DS1’s room about 6 months after Easter. It took me nearly 2 hours to tidy and clean the dirt bags room so I ate the egg as a reward. 😂

MagicLoop · 24/10/2025 18:07

So basically you bought 2 bars of chocolate for you and pretended one of them was for him? Grin

1000DayChallenge · 24/10/2025 18:08

I’ve heard that there are robbers that enter your house and steal chocolate. They leave no trace, apart sometimes leaving wrappers in the bin.

Are you my SIL.? You gave yourself away Lucretia. Offering to help bury me sounds very much like the conversation you had with DH last Christmas. Plus the Mars bar stuff (whilst sounding delicious) is also your style.

If it wasn’t fruit & nut I would have a couple of squares with my coffee. Especially as your DH isn’t keen on chocolate.

You are lucky that my DD is living in your household. I stocked up on my favourite dark chocolate when COVID hit. Looked in the cupboard a week later and half of MY stash was gone 😡

I lived with someone who would leave half a bounty in the fridge for weeks 🤯

I am a very fancy, highly educated lawyer. I'm not Elle but I do know her. She concurs with my ruling

GabriellaMontez · 24/10/2025 18:14

The longer of 24 hours or past midnight. Thats the law.

MorningFresh · 24/10/2025 18:15

Have you not got a dog?

AltitudeCheck · 24/10/2025 18:18

I feel your pain OP! I have a similarly defective partner. He's been known before now to come home from the pub with half a packet of dry roasted peanuts that he's 'saving' for another day, he can make a packet of biscuits last weeks and has to put them in airtight containers so they don't go soft! 😱 Easter eggs and selection boxes are a particular sore point as they can last for MONTHS!!

I put this down to him being an only child and never having to gobble food down! I also blame the fact he's an only child for his absolute refusal to even entertain the thought of sharing any of his treats! I know just how much trouble I'd be in for 'stealing' (his words not mine) his chocolate as he would indeed be 'saving' it for some undetermined future occasion!!

Next time, buy 2 bars for yourself and lock one in the car to at least make it last a few hours longer!

Jamesblonde2 · 24/10/2025 18:19

I think it’s weird how men can just leave chocolate around. All the men in my family are all laid back about it. Unlike me.

Deliveroo · 24/10/2025 18:26

Next time, buy the bar of his favourite chocolate to share, and eat your own favourite on the journey home, so that you don’t bite his fingers off.

You may also want to scale down the size of the shared bar, to twice the size of whatever he ate from the other one.

In the meantime, all you can do now is eat what’s in the fridge, and replace it with another bar, that you also eat a bit out of until it resembles the original. You may have to repeat this procedure everyday, or several times a day until he finally eats his chocolate.
