Would you open your hot oven door with a 4 month old in your arms ? Or any age?

Open to check if a pizza was cooked - yes. Open to get something out - no.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 22/10/2025 22:01

No, I wouldn't.

No I wouldn't.

When I open my oven door to check something the heat that comes out is enough to make the metal of my pendant burn my neck.
To expose a wee baby to that heat is madness.

Anotherdayanotherpound · 22/10/2025 22:18

Not a chance, no

Do you not reach out and open it and stand back, then open it more to look once the blast of heat is gone? No need to cook yourself each time

No, I wouldn't have done that. Too high a chance they would have been touched by something hot.

77Fee · 22/10/2025 22:26

Yes, I think I would have done. I'm confident I was strong enough to keep baby a decent distance away from anything that could harm him/her.

Now I'm older I'd not risk it but in my 30s, yes.

Peclet · 22/10/2025 22:27

Open and look- yes

Open and lean in and grab something- NO

GAJLY · 22/10/2025 22:36

No absolutely not. The hot air hits you and the baby. Baby could dangle and touch the door. Very dangerous.

It's a drop down door. And I've got poor eyesight.
So I have difficulty seeing what's going on in the oven anyway.
I actually didn't think there was an initial blast of hot air coming out followed by cooler. I thought it was all just hot air.
And I still think holding a child while opening an oven is an absolutely unsafe thing to do.

AutumnCosy2025 · 22/10/2025 23:16

It depends what's cooking.

id slowly open the door standing side on with DC on the opposite hip if I was just checking on something like lasagne. Or muffins. Nothing that would spit.

i wouldnt attempt to remove anything that wasn't very light (garlic bread type thing maybe)

in an ideal world you'd put them down in a seat/on the floor, in an adjoining room, but we dont live in a perfect world with permanently happy babies that are happy to be put down.
