Confession time (light-hearted)

I am a professional woman in a demanding job with adult children ... and I cannot put on a bra. I have to fasten it at the front and swivel it round. Finally confessed this to my sister and she wrinkled her nose and said "Well it's not really adulting, is it?"

So come on, Mumsnetters, let's hear your shameful adulting failures.

Surely that's how many people put on a bra.
What does your sister do and why does she think her way is 'right'?

dimension2025 · 21/10/2025 07:18

I must admit I thought this would be more interesting
sister sounds very odd

Devilsmommy · 21/10/2025 07:20

I've always put them on that way. Why faff about trying to do it up behind you🤷 your sister is the weird one

HelenaWaiting · 21/10/2025 07:24

I feel vindicated. 😁

That’s the way I’ve always put them on.

MumoftwoNC · 21/10/2025 07:27

There's been a thread about this before, and based on the poll in it I think it was about 25% swivel. I swivel too.

As an aside, that's just the kind of thing my sister used to be judgy about back when she couldn't hold down a job. What's real adulting, contortionism or being financially solvent? So there (sticks out tongue)

Sisters, eh.

TheTortiePuffinNeedsHerBreakfast · 21/10/2025 07:30

Sorry what? There is a way to put on a bra OTHER than swiveling?! 😂

Cantyouseethishorselovesme · 21/10/2025 07:34

I've been doing it your way forever OP. At the gym after showering my friends tease me mercilessly, but it takes me half the time they take so I don't care!

upsofloating · 21/10/2025 07:44

My physio told me that she'd advised someone with rotator cuff injury to do their bra up at the front. It didn't occur to her to add 'then swivel it round'.At the next appointment she realised the patient had been wearing the cups at the back ever since.

applemangoo · 21/10/2025 07:47

That’s the only way to out a Bra on, surely!

the80sweregreat · 21/10/2025 07:48

Always done it this way op! I can take off a bra without removing my top though. Makes up for my lack of putting it on without the swivel.

I can put a bra on the "right" way.
However last night I had a complete fail trying to by my oodie on ended up completely tangled and stuck in it, while my teenage DD has practically collapsed in giggles.

Owly11 · 21/10/2025 08:31

Isn't that how everyone puts on a bra? Your sister sounds weird.

BlueJuniper94 · 21/10/2025 08:39

How I put mine on!

Haha I struggle putting the oodie on as well, always goes on back to front and then my face is in the hood and I have to start again

Brightbluesomething · 21/10/2025 08:51

I thought everyone did the fasten, swivel, jiggle them in place movement?
Are you saying some women try to do up 3-5 hooks behind their back like some kind of weird challenge on a daily basis? Or do other MN’ers still have staff to dress them in Downton Abbey style?

the80sweregreat · 21/10/2025 08:53

The bra thing is weird as it’s nobodies business really. I loath bras as it is without the judgement of doing it up wrong!

If you used to it it isn't difficult.
The whole twisting thing sounds a complete faff to me.

Fortunately the majority just need to worry about our own dressing habits.

the80sweregreat · 21/10/2025 09:50

People who have magical powers are those who can do up bikini tops up behind their backs with those interlocking fasteners!

the80sweregreat · 21/10/2025 09:51

Doing up tiny buttons on clothes is also a faff, they end up in the wrong holes. I also have been known to end up with a hoodie on the wrong way round too. I have to double check my clothes before putting them on.

I used to have a top with tiny buttons that did up down the back. Great top, couldn't get dressed on my own. I used to think "what lame brain designed this?"
