Horrific UTI… no sleep & now diarrhoea

Developed cystitis on Sunday, just felt the “drag” when I was finishing peeing. Tried to drink loads of water Sunday and yesterday, and it helped a bit in the day.

Tried to fall asleep around 10pm - it’s now 4:45am and I’ve not even been able to lie down. I’ve been up and down to the toilet about 12 times at least! I have stopped drinking water because I just can’t bear the thought of getting out of bed for the toilet again.

About an hour ago I developed a horrific stomach ache and now have diarrhoea 😭 I have pain in my back and weirdly in my calves!

Looks like no sleep for me tonight. Any advice on how to remedy some of these symptoms now?!?! I’ve tried paracetamol, cystitis powders, ibuprofen, hot water bottle, heat pads, distraction ….

Im genuinely in a bad way right now. Waiting for a 111 callback

UTIs are horrendous but you sound in a particularly bad way.
I find heat helps, so would use your hwb and heat pad between your legs and on your back. Peeing in warm water (shallow bath?) also takes away some of the sting.
🤞111 answers soon and you get some medical intervention. 🤝

You might need anti biotics? GP in the morning.

You've tried everything I would have thought of. I know it won't do much, but as pp said hot water bottles and/or a hot bath might help alleviate the worst while you wait to hear back. You have my sympathy! UTIs are so uncomfortable

A&E may be what 111 suggest. I had a bad UTI a couple of years ago and went to A&E on the advice of a family member who is a GP . I was admitted and on a drip overnight as they were concerned it was tracking back towards kidneys and could cause long term damage. Is there blood in your urine?

NeedyJoker · 21/10/2025 05:21

No blood in my urine and not exactly “stingy” either - more like a drag on my bladder when I’ve been for a wee - like an ache really. And constantly urgency to go.

I feel really sick! I’ve had UTIs before but none this bad. I’ve literally been unable to lie down.

I would definitely be ringing 111 or A&E x

Thejoyofdecluttering · 21/10/2025 05:31

If I were you I’d go to A and E now.

You have my sympathies OP I've just had an on and off UTI for 4 weeks and I was in tears at some points. I take tramadol for other reasons but it didn't stop the pain.

Mine was the opposite, diarrhoea first (prep for a colonoscopy) you need antibiotics.

111 sent a message to my GP, there were no appointments so they sent me to the urgent care unit for antibiotics.

If you can manage it get a sample to take to either your Dr or urgent care.
