Cold

I think I'm getting a cold. I've developed a really sore throat and that's usually how my colds start. I have an important funeral to attend in 2 days time and need to be well for it.

Normally I wouldn't be bothered and would carry on as usual going to work, but with this funeral I cannot afford to be ill so wonder if it would be better to stay home and take sick leave from work on the two days beforehand to stop getting a full blown cold especially as it's raining and windy. I cannot tell work I will switch from office to home working g because that's not allowed and if you are too ill to travel to the office then you are too ill to work at home and must take sick leave. Obviously it's at managers discretion but the general rule is u work in office on your office days and home on your home days and you stick to that unless you have an appointment at home. If you are too ill to travel then work say you take sick leave

Taking time off work won't make the cold any better for the funeral. The cold is going to run it's course either way. A cold isn't terribly exasperated by mild physical activity if the cold isn't terrible to begin with.

If you're too ill to work, take sick leave. If that's the case though, you'll probably be much too unwell for the funeral too.

Kind of judging your place of work for not allowing contagious colleagues to WFH though. That seems silly. What is just a mild cold for one person could see others out of action for a week, people's bodies react differently and some people are vulnerable to all sorts of bugs, you going into the office would just spread the germs.

And just a thought, would the other funeral goers want your germs too?

You don’t get a cold, full blown or otherwise, from rain and wind.

Covid

the current strain is generally starting with a sire thrust & feeling like a cold is coming on.

The funeral might be a no go 🥲

I just thought that if I took 2 days off work and stayed at home in the warm and didn't have to go out battling the wind and rain then my cold would get better faster or not even develop. Also my office is always freezing as the air con is always too high

Yes, it's a good idea to rest in bed for one or two days when you have a cold to help your immune system fight the infection and recover faster.

Are you replying to your own question? If so you had a name change fail there.

Vicks first defence spray really seems to help stop a cold developing

The start of a cold also feels like the start of a cold. Many viruses start with a sore throat. So while it could be Covid, it could also just be another virus that causes cold symptoms. Almost every single virus I’ve had starts with a cold. Including everything pre 2020.

i mean if you want to take two days off work sick do, it's nothing to do with us. But I wouldn't tell your boss it's because you feel you have a cold coming on 😁
