Pebble mill. Hated it.

Oh gosh I came on to say Pebble Mill…terrible programme!! 🤣

Rainbowcat77 · 20/10/2025 22:17

Oh an Young doctors…I still can’t walk through double swing doors without picturing the opening sequence to it.

Wherestheteenguide · 20/10/2025 22:18

Goodness is forgotten so many of these titles until I read this thread! Definitely remember sons and daughters, sullivans and pebble mill!

Bladderpool · 20/10/2025 22:20

Pebble Mill had some classic moments though, Paul Shane murdering You’ve Lost that Loving Feeling is comedy gold. Also didn’t they stuff up a “live” performance of Owen Paul’s Favourite Waste Of Time?

The best part of being an ill in the early 70s was the daytime dramas. I regarded Crown Court (shown at 1:30 pm) as the quality opening act for the real headliner, the peerless General Hospital at 2 pm. It was also possible to catch some daytime shows aimed at pre-schoolers such as Michael Bentine’s Potty Time, which was a kind of Monty Python for little ones and which I thought was hilarious. No VCRs in those days so being ill was the only chance we had of watching this stuff.

Mistyglade · 20/10/2025 22:22

Sons and Daughters came on in the afternoon. TvAm before with Anne Diamond and that fella.

Arlanymor · 20/10/2025 21:54

Sons and daughters
Love and laughter
Tears of sadness and happinesssssssssss...
We will find out
Our sons and daughters
Are what, we too, were once aboutttttttttt....

Yes I would watch this too.

That’s firmly in the ear worm now you sod!!!

Bladderpool · 20/10/2025 22:28

My mum loved General Hospital, but I remember even she lost patience with a storyline where Gill Gascoigne played another character in a red wig and a bad accent. She seemed to take it as a personal attack on her intelligence.

chunkybear · 20/10/2025 22:29

Many of these, Sullivan (I hated it, and they had a gate with a funny sunshine type pattern on it).
sons and Daughters … so weird, the same nothingness every episode
prisoner cell block H
Young Doctors, possibly Flying Doctors …. were we getting BOGOFF deals on Oz programmes?!

Ticktockk · 20/10/2025 22:35

Oh my word. I had totally forgotten You and Me existed until now, yet it’s all come flooding back and now I can’t get the theme song out of my head.
Flying doctors, yes! amazing! The littlest hobo. The Sullivans. We didn’t know we were alive 😂

throwawayusrname · 20/10/2025 22:37

Oh god, I remember watching schools TV, a show about early medical doctors. Someone did a blood transfusion from a goat. Being unwell already I fainted. Dad never noticed as he was shut in his study working. Was probably 7 or 8!

DiscoBob · 20/10/2025 22:39

I wasn't made to watch anything but there were a few I remember vividly.

Going for Gold, a European quiz with Henry Kelly. Really cheesy but I loved it.

The Flying Doctors and Sons and Daughters. Both unwatchable shite.

Sesame street. I pretended not to like it but I did really.

Watching neighbours twice a day was the highlight!

Stumbleine · 20/10/2025 22:40

Lucky ladders!

Also of course Going for Gold "You're playing catch up"

TheaBrandt1 · 20/10/2025 22:49

“Sons and daughters smiles and happiness and something something” still remember that theme tune

TheaBrandt1 · 20/10/2025 22:51

“Sons and daughters / smiles and happiness / love and laughter everywhere”

who wrote this drivel?!

BlueEyedBogWitch · 20/10/2025 22:53

Hans Zimmer wrote the theme tune for Going For Gold!

My least favourite was when I was off sick and the Schools programme was maths or science-based, instead of How We Used To Live.

Or when dad was around (worked shifts) so he watched the snooker or the cricket and I missed all the good stuff.

I wasn’t keen on the Kiwi/Aussie soaps like Shortland Street, Young Doctors and Sons and Daughters.

I loved Paint Along With Nancy; Farmhouse Kitchen; Kilroy; The Time, The Place; The Sullivans; The Cedar Tree and Heads and Tails.

lingmerth · 20/10/2025 22:54

We never had the tv on during the day apart from Watch with Mother at lunchtime.

Devilsmommy · 20/10/2025 22:55

When I was off ill it was always Vanessa I remember. That awful talk show with that horrible Vanessa Feltz😒

WonderfulSmith · 20/10/2025 22:57

EleanorReally · 20/10/2025 21:15

nothing at all,
dm very strong believer in no day time tv
as a child i am that old there was nothing until magic roundabout
unless there were programmes for schools, but i wouldnt know

Same here. To sick to go to school then too sick to watch TV. Schools programs or not at all. The TV was never on in the daytime anyway and I still can’t bring myself to do it. I can’t put it on until after 5pm. Read or radio before that.

They are showing all of Crown Court on Talking Pictures TV at the moment.

Gill Gascoigne! The Gentle Touch was one of my favourite programmes.

Nothing. It was straight to bed with curtains closed. No tv, no reading, nothing. My mum had a strange idea that if you were well enough to lie on the sofa staring blankly at the tv in an attempt to distract yourself from nausea etc, then you were well enough for school.

Yes this! I am staggered at everyone watching tv - I didn’t think it was a thing!

InkyOctopuswithLegs · 20/10/2025 23:11

Crown Court
General Hospital
House Party
