Is it ok just to offer wine, beer and soft drinks when having guests round for a meal?

Just that really. We're not big drinkers so we don't have a stock of spirits or "after dinner" type drinks. Would you think we were poor hosts if that was all we offered?

You'd be my friend for life if you also had non-alcoholic wine. My husband can't drive so I'm always the one being offered sparkling water or diet coke. Our best friend always buys really amazing non-alcoholic wines so I can feel like an adult! It's also handy for people who don't want more than a couple of glasses of regular wine.

I've never come across a non alcoholic, or even low alcohol, wine that tastes anything like the real thing. Personally I don't even bother. I'd rather drink water and save the calories for when I can drink wine.

I agree. Non alcoholic beer and cider are much better IMO. I'm not a beer drinker but sometimes I want a soft drink that isn't sweet and isn't water, and tastes grown up.

Yes, I find non alcoholic beer a much better option if I really want something other than water (which is rare to be honest).

I think that's very generous, especially if you are not big drinkers yourself.
My other half has beer and whiskey in the house and we have the odd bottle of wine. I gave up drinking at Christmas for multiple reasons but if someone comes around I buy a bottle of prosecco and white and red , just in case. also depends who's coming.
